I'm still working on my BIFs(not the steadiest hands).
I think this is a Cooper's Hawk. We have a couple Redtails in the area too, but have yet to get a shot at them.

Back-focus issue: (lens or camera?)

A bit better:

Later in the day I found him playing with a blackbird.

Well, not playing:

Thanks Willy. I liked 3+4 too, even tough they are less than steller, the action was cool.

Thanks.

I used my 300 f/2.8 + 1.4x TC. The shots are nearly 100% crops. I had to quit using my 2x TC for BIFs, until I get my panning smoother. Or, I may have to go with a tri-pod, but I'd rather not. I like being mobile.

2&4 are Outstanding both for different reasons 2 for composition light, detail and color and 4 for action

Outstanding action shots on 3+4, 4 takes it though.
and 2 is absolutely superb.
in answer to your question on Pic one Back-focusing issue.
the 1DMk III, I believe has a Custom setting to compensate for this for upto 20 memory settings which means 20 Separate lenses. I would possibly say lens, but it can be adjusted in Camera for that particular lens. I would read the manual.

Photographs are records of life. Pity they don't make music when you put them in a record player. :p

My thoughts exactly. ;)

With regards to the back-focussing issue.. If it wasn't user error, wouldn't it back-focus on every shot!?! Just curious, as i have no idea about this, but i DO get a lot of OOF shots lol! :D

Thanks all, for the comments. Being a nooob, it's good to hear what I've done right and especielly what needs improvement.

I keep watching and hoping to repeat #4, and get it right next time. The blackbirds seem to chase the hawks frequently, but it's been behind trees, so no new shots.

Sorry for the bad humor, Back-focusing was meant to be a joke. There was a thread in the Lens forum a while back, where the back of ducks and what not was accused of being back-focusing, in humor because of all the back-focusing lens issues people were bringing up. :) My lens is focusing just fine, all fuzziness is user error.

---------------

Here's another quick series of the same hawk, which I found funny. The wife didn't appreciate it as much as I did :)

I can see that second one (in the second series) as a novelty poster with the caption "Blow it out your a$$" :)

Wonderful shots JC4!
I just (less than an hour ago) shot a sequence much like your first one. I hope they came out. Will let you know.

Sorry I didn't realise it was a joke :o sorry.
Anyway I love the new series, just wish they were a little bit bigger, but great none the less, keep up the good work.
