I like the sharpness of the blossom and the out of focus, non-detracting background (call it "bokeh", if you like); and the composition, exposure and color balance all look good.

Congratulations! You've got the essentials!

Now, ask yourself, what can I do in a similar shot to make it even more exciting.

Admirable - much improved, in my opinion.

However, the question was, "what can I do in a similar shot to make it even more exciting?". (Emphasis added to make it clear that we are not talking about this picture in particular).

For example, it is generally accepted that when the main subject is a threesome, it adds more interest. So, you would need to find a group of three blossoms and do essentially the same thing with that subject. See what I mean?

The first image has been saved in the Adobe RGB colour space, which is why it looks dull in a non colour-managed browser. If you save it and open it in a colour managed application like Lightroom it looks a lot better. Here's my take on it with a few tweaks but most importantly, saved in sRGB colour space. First the original and then my version.....

Lauren/Sqjaw, you have once again saved your picture in the Adobe RGB colour space instead of sRGB. I got your earlier message, which seems to have disappeared now, and I do not understand why you are "finishing" off with PSE 5. What are you doing in PSE 5 that you can't do in Lightroom?

In Lightroom, when you Export your photo(s), just make sure you have Color Space set to sRGB on the Export screen. It doesn't really matter what colour space the photo was set to going in to Lightroom, so long as you Export it as sRGB.

I can't help you with PSE 5 as I don't use Photoshop anything. Maybe PSE 5 is resaving your photos as Adobe RGB again. I don't know how you fix that.

I think it is simply a matter of setting your Edit->Color Settings such that sRGB is specified as the RGB "Working Space".

The flower appears to be a Columbine. Does it hang upside down?

I like it, but the lighter spot in the lower left draws my eye away from the flower.
