Hello all,

Here is a picture of my baby daughter, I am new to photography and even new to the SLR scene. Your constructive criticism will hopefully make me a better photographer :)

The light source is sunlight through a window slightly behind and to the right. I think a higher aperature value would have been better ? Or maybe i should have used fill in flash to lighten her face up a bit against the bright sunlight.

I think with these types of shot you need to ensure you have a large appeture to give a nice out of focus background.

The light from the window is a bit too strong, which bleaches some of the detail on the RHS of her face, which is harder to recover. Try using levels and in particular the shadows and highlights, see whether you can improve. At the moment the contrast ratio between the lightest arera of her face and the darkest area is too great.

Maybe a crop would also held to remove some of your bedroom from the background. Try a gaussian blur on the background.

Hi khaled,
I did copy your baby's pict and try to work on it on PS CS. You can apply some unsharp mask and in the filter window, do some lightening effects in "render" to bring some extra light to the left side to balance a bit the light from the window.
I could not access to your email adress on your profile, and since I don't know (forgot) how to post a pic in the forum, that's all I can help with.
regards
Khalid
