I recently purchased from a Hong Kongcompnay on Ebay a cheapy (yea, I know, you get what you pay for) wireless remote control for my 30D. It doesn't work. Batteries are fine, both the green and red lights on both the transmitter and receiver work correctly, but it won't fire the camera. I have a wired remote that does work, so I know the three pins on the camera are okay.

This is the second unit the company has sent, neither have worked.

Here is a link to the Ebay auction:

Any thoughts?

I don't have one of these units, but I've seen pictures. Are the radio channel sliders positioned the same on the remote and the receiver? They may shifted at some point.

Yes, all switches are on the same channels. The transmitter "talks" to the reciever and the green light and red lights come on as you push the buttons.

I tried to do a continuity check and I just don't think the unit is working. My wired remote works, so it's not the camera, I believe.

Thanks for your reply.

I've read just about every thread on these remotes as I'm looking to get one soon. I'm guessing you wouldn't recommend the ebay knock off?

Would you recommend the wired remote you have?

I would definitely recommend the wired remote, which I purchased off of Ebay--a lot cheaper than Canon's OEM remote. It to was from Hong Kong, but it works great. I made a modification though. I very carefully glued a small (clothing) button onto the top of the "firing" button. My thumb is so wide it was sort of difficult to press the firing button all the way down.

It took about 10-14 days to make the trip from Hong Kong. I am very happy with it.
