I have the original 16mb cf card that came with the G1. I've also purchased a 340mb microdrive and PC card reader. Does the pc card reader that came with the microdrive read cf cards too?

You should have no problems at all with your card reader - it will be backwards compatible with your type I compact flash card (the microdrive being a type II compact flash device)
