Here are two shots I took last Easter on a photography trip to Edinburgh, I was trying to mix both the new (the modern roof of the National Museum) and the old (the castle) in the background.

Which do you guys prefer, if any?!

Nothing? No critique or advice?

I like the idea of contrasting styles, new and old. But the shots don't do it for me. I think the composition of the pics is so extreme and the castle so far away is why.

2 Samuel 9:7-8, "So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”

Ok, thanks for the critique. I wasn't sure about the shots so any critique is useful.

Hey Adam, I just saw this. I like the concept but I have to agree with OCP here, the castle is a bit too far to discern. I think the photo could be quite good though, I sense that there is a lot of texture hidden in that deck and in the window's reflections, a bit of PP will surely bring them out. I like the lines and possible tonal range, but I do not really like the tilted perspective. Don't get me wrong, this is just a preference of mine. Cheers!

Cheers for the critique pio. I will have a look at my disc of images today as I think that there may be one image without the extreme angle. What can I do besides D+B to bring out the textures?

You might want to try HDR but so much that it makes it so fanciful that the viewer expects to see dragons attacking the castle.

2 Samuel 9:7-8, "So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”

i really like the tones, and i think some dodging over there on that castle would really help make it part of the story. same for the roof, but maybe leave it a little darker since it's closer.
