Hello!

I am using CS2 to convert my RAW pics and make the basics adjustments on the shots. It has been working really well so far, however, I have shot a couple of nice sunset photos and came across a problem....while it looks nice and warm on the CR2 original file, it just does not resemble anything on the converted jpeg. It is strange as I left everything 'as shot', yet the colors are way off....

Please help me as it is driving me crazy that I cannot bring back the nice colors!!!!

Thanks a million!

Sounds like a possible color managemnet problem, or perhaps some Auto settings are being applied. Can we get some screen captures of before/after conversion and the settings used during conversion?

You know what.....I am not even sure how to post screen captures, having never done that. Could you help me out with some basic how-to? Sorry if it is too low-level. Thanks!!!

I guess I should just give up and go to bed :( I followed the steps from your link and ended up with a white background clipping. I tried to change background but did not manage to get the screen capture....it seemed so simple at first...

You might have to turn on a function lock button depending on your keyboard.

Looks like you might need to press the Fn key, according to the manual.

Thats because I am sure you are shooting in Adobe RGB (wider color gamut) and then jpeg defaults to sRGB for web.

There is plenty of resources out there about how to get good looking jpeg files. I basically assign my photo to the sRGB before saving it, and the color is closer to that of the Adobe RGB.

Just to be clear you should NEVER assign a color space to a photo but you should convert from one space to another. The only time to assign a color space is when there is no profile embedded in the image and you know what profile should be used.

OK, I am still trying to figure out how to capture the screen and share with you a couple of examples. So here is what I do:

- I have the picture on the screen and press fn+Prnt Scrn together (also tried Ctrl+Print Scrn)
- then I open Photoshop, press 'new' and 'ok'

No matter what I do, only white background comes up instead of the screen capture. What am I doing wrong???

Thanks a million again!

I use Alt+Print Screen. Then in Photoshop: Ctrl+N (new document) then press enter without changing anything. Then press Ctrl+ V (paste). There you go. if you get your whole screen including the taskbar and everyhting then just crop out whatever you dont need. Then use save for web(size under 100k) and then upload it here.

To your original problem: You need to use Edit>Convert to Profile. Choose the sRGB color profile and then save your JPG. If you use Adobe Camera RAW to convert your Raw images then you can set this to automatically be the color space when a raw file is converted.

Hehe. You have to press Fn + CTRL (or ALT) + PrtScrn. Sorry I should have stated that earlier when I said you have to press the Fn key.
