1Ds Mark II

I planned on buying a Canon 1Ds, and got the money on my Visa - but any rumours on the "Mark II" of this excellent camera.

Regardless of its excellency, it has to be surpassed by the "Mark II" and come at a cheaper price also.... the typical price-development on DSLR is favorable to use, the customers....great.

But what are you folks best advice : to wait 6-8 months (predicted) or should i go for the 1Ds today.

I have the 10D with some L-zooms and a couple of Canon primes, and i want to move upwards - but could live with the 6 mpix for at reasonable time of period.

I think it depends on what your photographic needs are like. If you need wide angles and don't require fast fps, get the 1ds. The Mark II is a fast camera made for sports and has a 1.3 multiplication factor which makes for less wide angle. Both will make easy 16x20s. I personally would go for the newer Mark II but it fits my needs better and my wallet likes it better too. Good luck...both are dream cameras in my opinion.

Wait for Photokina this fall. And the 1Ds Mark II will be substantially more expensive than the 1D mark II.

1Ds Mark II

I meant for the new 1Ds that are about to come - i want to get rid of the crop factor....i don´t want the 8 megapix Mark II but the 11 megapix followup on the 1Ds

No problem. And the new 1Ds will probably be around 16-plus megapixels. We will know very little until Photokina approaches. Canon keeps details pretty quiet on their new products.

With an investment like that to make, I'd maybe consider waiting a bit.

But then, I don't know your immediate needs.

Chances are that if you buy the 1DII now, you'll be able to sell it in half a year without losing too much money ... and in the meantime you have a great camera.

OTOH, you might also get to like the camera and keep it as a backup to the 1DS...

I have absolutely no inside information, but I'm guessing that the new sensor in the next 1Ds II will be a full-frame equivalent of the 1D II, which means that it will have more megapixels than it does now, but it will also have considerably lower noise than the present version (which isn't really noisy anyway). That's my humble opinion. If you are considering a large outlay of cash and you can wait a few months, then by all means wait.

1Ds II - the long wait

I am gonna put quite considerable amount of money into this, and will wait - and yes, it´ll be the sequel of the 1Ds i will be interested in. But i´ll wait since Canon surely are up to something this year on the DSLR marked.

Boy oh boy, "16 mpix" or anything near that resolution - can´t hardly wait....
