Larry,

I really like the last shot. If you were trying to get the usual "prop blur" a lot of detail in the bike and rider would have been lost. Its pretty cool to be able to tell what kind of wheels, pedals and power meter the rider is using. The guy on the far side is almost invisible. Nice work

Thanks! I have been trying to get some of the sponsors to pick up some of these photos and naturally, they want to see a lot of name in the photo.

What I have found is the rider themselves likes the heavy motion photos with blur and the teams/sponsors like the crisp photo where the person paying the money to have the name on the bike is visable.

These are awesome. I'm just getting into this and can't wait to take some like these.

Practice Practice.

Do you think the 70-200 f/4 L would be generally adequate for these types of photos? Most cycling events are outside :) I find myself more easily able to justify (and afford) $1000 than $1600... but don't want to be totally sorry later.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Super job Round; I'm heading to the TDF next month and would be thrilled to come anywhere even slightly close to what you've achieved!

Here is my thoughts....I got the 2.8 withOUT the IS thinking that I wanted to save myself the extra $500.

A year later do I regret it? not really but sometimes I wonder ...what if...

I do think that there is a bigger difference shooting sports and fast sports from 2.8 to 4.0. Saying that, when I started I always shot 2.8 but lately been shooting more 4.0, 5.6 and 8.0.

the races are outside but there is often shady parts, overcast, twlight races. If you can bite the bullet and get the 2.8 you'll be happy you did.

I have a few other shots from that race at http://larryrosa.com/nez (external link)

I like these, especially the second two. The power lines in the first shot kind of ruin it for me but the sun was handled well and it makes the shot interesting. Nice work.

Thanks, I agree also I almost deleted that shot on camera from the race but when I got it on the computer I sorta liked it.

I could spend the time and remove the powerlines but at the end of the day...Power lines won.

I dream of pictures like your victory shot from that race. So much emotion. And your colors are sooo bright... is there much pp there? I can never seem to get those vibrant colors.

And, if you don't mind my picking your brain some more....

Is the AF on the 2.8 faster than that of the 4? I just don't know what to do... for a hobbyist the 600 bones is a huge deal. Especially since I'd like to use some of the saved money for things like a flash (all I have is the on camera right now). And speaking of flashes, have you ever had an issue with racers being ticked off at a flash going off in their faces? Maybe more so at a local race where the athletes probably aren't used to it?

thanks, and sorry to bug ya...

No worries at all. I have asked a zillion questions on this board and everyone has always been really helpful.

If all you can get is the 4.0 get it.

I use the flash as fill and never had a problem with anyone being distracted by the flash. They are flying by so fast and they are focused on racing. It's also not a blinding flash.

roundsquare1,

Great shots, my fave is #1! Can you please provide some pointers on using flash at cycling events? Thank you so much!

Nice shots. I would have liked to see a bit of fill on the first shot. Maybe it would work, maybe not. I like the composition though.

I don't know how these got by me for a week, but I guess it can happen....

Regards,
Jeff

Great images! I like the feel of the shots...
#3 shows just how much power the rider is producing from his legs - you
did a great job capturing the effort and conditioning needed for this
sport. Nice work! Also, it reminds me of growing up in Athens, GA with the
Pepsi Twilight Criterium... that was a fun race to watch.
