This has happened to me before. I shot in RAW and when uploading the pictures a sign appeared to say there was a problem with one of the pictures and I had to choose another way of saving it. I chose jpeg. So amongst about 20 RAW pictures, there is this one problomatic jpeg. This is my dad and there is a dark blob near his eye. The other time this happened my daughter had a black blob next to each eye. What's the deal?

Can you crop or zoom in on the area and post the result?

Here is a crop of the black blob. Both times this has happened it has been on the corner of the eye.

How are you uploading? Software or card reader?

I stick the card into the built in card reader in the computer.

Never seen anything like this before.

I'd also recommend a different CF card. Whatever you change to, make sure it is a quality card and not a dime a dozen knock off.

Maybe it's something a little deeper. Wasn't there some horror movie that had something like that in the pictures. LOL ;)

I don't know what to tell you, I'd probably get a different card.

I have a SanDisk Ultra II 2.0 GB. Isn't that supposed to be a decent card?

Horror movie? Ok, don't creep me out.

What software are you using to download to computer, or are you using Windows explorer to do it?

Reason I ask, is I've never seen an error message ask what form to save the file as.

If using some other software (like canon's) try download using Windows explorer to just copy the file to your hard-disk. Also, were you shooting RAW only or RAW+jpeg? Or was this a random .jpg file among all others being RAW... because if it was a RAW file, I don't know how you would have saved it as a jpeg without using conversion software (unless that's the embedded jpeg you're seeing)

Is this repeatable, where you would know right away by testing with a new card? It's also odd that this always happens around the eyes.

Let us know what you find out by trying a new card.

I think I'm using Windows to download. The error message did indeed ask how I wanted to save the image. There were a few choices. I was shooting only RAW. This I'm certain about and I never switched to jpeg.

The first time it happened was about 2 weeks ago. Since then I've taken a good number of pictures with nothing happening. Then today it happened again, so I don't think I'd know right away if a new card fixes the problem or not.

I wish I could be more specific about what the message said. If it comes up again I'll write it down.

Thanks for helping.

Do you have it on auto fix red-eye when you uplaod with jpeg - because I have seen this happen to me before a while ago - and if I recall correctly it was trying to auto fix red-eye when I uploaded into photoshop.
About the error message - not sure... sorry
good luck!
