i never said that it was around the corner. i am just saying that a nice FF body with some of the nice features of the 1DmkIII is very tempting.

blond you had me all excited there i thought you knew something, I too am waiting for a 5D replacement, and if that is not in the works then a final response on the MKIII from Canon or RG, regarding the AF issue so I can purchase asap.

ok... today i tried a bit of the same conditions as rg (at a short point in time the light shone brightly and temp of 82 with 80% humidity... though now it's cloudy and 80) at a football practice... 1 shot 1 foot oof 2 shots less than 6in oof (probably much less than that for all 3), 29 shots perfectly in focus... works like a charm so far... CDS, i hope yours turns out just as good

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Yep, anxiously awaiting CDS's results. Not sure what I'm going to do with mine particularly if his seems fixed because while it does seem to be working better, it still seems to get randomly oof shots. I do need to test it some more I guess.

P.S. also anxiously waiting on more results from Cider and cwphoto!

From our swapping exercise, my conclusion is that Michael's camera and my camera are both working identically.

Luckily I was able to use his camera under similar conditions to that which saw my camera get AF errors - which saw his camera also get AF errors as reported earlier.

So now I am going to compile all this data (including sample images) and ship my camera to Canon for evaluation.

Looking at the 40D, I think it telegraph's the 5D's eventual replacement to a great extent. But I don't think that'll be here for several months yet.

Anyway, back to the subject, I'm anxiously awaiting CDS's test images now that he's gotten the biggun back from Canon!

That's definitely the direction I was leaning towards (both working the same) in seeing what has happened, but didn't know if you both felt the same way. Interesting, definitely interesting.

Kenny, when do you ever shoot it,. your always in here!

O-kay seriouly though
I stopped by the park on the way home only to be greeted by Big blue.. (GBH)

Last time I had him in the MkIII's sites it was a total disaster,. OOF OOF OOF...

So today, I managed to get Big Blue to regain a little of his confidnece around me, he was daritng around in grass and behind trees, but not winging off,.

Shooting him in and out of the shubbery I was able to keep focus using AIservo no less, and not have tons of randomly messed up shots.

The lens did not "hunt" once today.

Now,. it's been dry and cool here the last few days, like almost fall weather temps, and this afternoon was very overcast, so I was dialing in ISO 1000-1600 even wide open at f/2.8 (I was shooting 70-200mm f/2.8 as that's all I had with me)

Today was the most trouble free shooing I have had with MkIII other than the Tall Ships day, but I was doing some of the tricky stuff that had been tripping the thing up like blazes.

One last note,. before leaving work I popped in my SD card with my own camera settings, so I was shooting the exact same settings that I had been working on (my BIF recipe) for some time, so using Canon's default played no part (I wanted to eliminate that right off the bat)

I shot exactly 150 shots it seems, and I have very few "unexplained" off,. maybe 3-6.
Thats a big improvement!

So now, I won't know if heat plays a part until next week,. when I'll be in Africa! ;)

I don't, I'm just making all this up. :) I shoot the spiders in the corner of the room or ....:)

Sounds like great news on the Camera! And nothing to do with settings. Wonder what "electrical" adjustment they made/have been making that seems to be fixing these cameras?

Sounds very promising, though I know that you'd like to try a few in the heat before you leave for Africa. Are you taking the 1D2 along as well?
