I wonder if Canon is ever going to acknowledge this issue.

RG's cameras went back a moth ago.....not a peep....

I have my doubts. No update on RG's site other than that they are testing the latest frimware 1.1.1 in Japan....

His email to me assured me that as soon as he got any word it would be posted on the site.

I don't think they are recall anything, and some shops may have them in stock, but a couple of rumors have said that Canon was holding shipments while resolving the AF issue. There's no more way to know for sure as Canon would be even more tight-lipped about that as about acknowledging the issues itself.

Ken, Here you go:-

">> I spoke with Canon today over the phone. The new firmware release (1.1.1) should be here by the end of next week apparently.

I'm trying to get my hands on the beta version out right now; gotta wait to hear back from some people in CPS.

I've had no problems what-so-ever with my Mark III and have loved it since I got it."

Not sure why the guy is so anxious to get a beta v1.1.1 as he has no problems with his MKIII's AF

Cheers:confused:

No offense, and not to rain on your parade, but I hope it wasn't a returned one

It is why I passed on my recent MKIII. I do not want a retread that some dealer got back and cleaned up and is reselling. I need to see a Canon answer and serial number cut-in before I jump.....and that serial number cut-in may be indicated by a little "n" after the MKIII....I really want one as it is a great feeling and ergonomically appealing camera....but it needs to work first.

Thanks Nick. I may standby and see it that firmware does anything before I totally lose it. :)

Wow, I just sat down with the morning coffee. I check this thread each day in hopes of an answer so I can buy an MKIII...and the thread is buried way back on page 4 of the forum. Looks like even we are giving up on the issue.

I'm checking nearly everyday myself in the hopes that I will see some "miracle" from Canon that acknowledges the problem and gives us a clear solution, whatever that is.

It might simply be that there is justifiable anticipation that 1.1.1 will solve the issue (or not) and you all can get on with it. Doesn't seem that there is much more need to show that something is wrong; probably one of the best documented issues ever published here.

This thread is in my subscriptions list, however, when I open a new post now it is not with nearly as much anticipation as I used to have. BUT, that said, we are getting close to learning about the 1.1.1 results from the pros in Japan. With luck, and lots of engineering, just maybe a fix is just around the corner. Honestly, I believe that by next month at this time, 90% of this issue will be history and almost all the folks here will agree the problem is fixed, or at least no longer unacceptable. Just a hunch, no inside knowledge at all, but I am better than the average bear at guessing these things. I'm sure I have lots of supporters out there hoping I am correct. I just hope that the fix doesn't involve a total recall.

Personally, I would rather see the recall than the constant firmware 'fixes'...
