Haven't good examples been posted many times in this thread? I know I can set my III to AI-Servo and fire as many shots as I want, at 10fps, at a simple static object and the entire series will be in focus. I've shot series of cars/motorcycles/people/birds coming toward me, or away, all in focus(unless I fall off target). I even did a lot of testing with my 300 f/2.8, to duplicate RG's tests, and had excellent results. I've done it indoors, and out, cool and 90+ with high humidity. I've got a 513xxx s/n. Others have proven their cameras can't hold AF in the same scenarios, and I believe them. John Caputo

I just don't see it as a higher percentage. Way back in the beginning of this thread many of us getting good results were running tests to help determine if some had bad cameras or if all of them were bad. There are a large number of us with early release III's that do NOT have the same issue as others. There are only a few people that have III's that don't seem to hold focus on the simple subjects. Well, I not going to look around, make a list and add it up for you. It's apparent to me. You asked if you were missing something and I think you are.

If anything perhaps those with "bad" cameras are becoming more complacent and/or have moved on to some other camera and/or are simply waiting on Canon to announce something. My feet are mostly in the third group, but leaning towards the second i.e. selling the MkIII and moving to something else as we don't seem to get along too well. Kenny A. Chaffin

I sent mine off and just received the following email, "We are pleased to confirm that the service you requested on your EOS-1D MARK III has been completed and your equipment has been shipped to you on 14-SEP-07" When I get the camera back will they provide me with a detailed list of what they actually fixed ? Yes, they will indicate what they did in the transmittal. It might simply say that cleaning and minor adjustment was done or simply cleaning. I don't think it will be overly satisfying, but there will be an explanation of what they did. My Stuff

I'm not seeing anyone getting new cameras complaining about AF issues. It's got me thinking that maybe some AF part was out of spec and Canon caught it and tightened it up. There still is the need for a fix for prior, although it kind of makes you wonder if that type of thing would justify a recall. Simply speculation, still, things do seem to be getting better. The psychological shift still is present though. Some people have read or assimulated the thrust of over 3000 posts in this thread and are fearlessly putting out $4500 for this body. My Stuff

One person has a good experience owning for a couple days and now the problem is fixed? That's as strange as one person having a bad camera and everyone thinking there's a problem. People that are aware are getting them in and testing them well within the return period. That's the difference I think. No one is taking them at face value, but as an unknown quantity that needs to be evaluated before one is stuck with the product and dependant on Canon to fix it. So in that sense yes, people seem to be getting them and evaluating them and they seem to work. My Stuff
