We are off topic with the 1Ds M3, but since it has been mentioned, I just don't see how shoving more MP is going to be even noticeable. The DM3 seems to have hit a nice balance between speed and IQ, although 12 or 14MP would have raised more eyes, imho. I am surprised they stayed with only 10mp.

I agree....keep the 1DsIII at 16MP and give it the dual DiG!Cs and everything else the 1D3 has (except frame rate of course). Man, can you imagine the high ISO performance on that FF camera? I bet they could take it to 12800.

Exactly the opposite.

My bad than Jason, my apologies. I was under that impression, but probably was mixing you up with someone else.

Yeah, the MIII is one fine camera, Canon has a winner on its hands. If and when they deal directly with the AF issue, and IF they can tune it up to expectations, this will be the hottest new camera to come down the pipe in many moons. The more I sue it, the more I love it.

Man oh man....MD Jakoff and AirSmitten would make even the FM Forum's Canon fanboys blush......all that rupturous effusion of love for a stinkin' camera.
Get a grip boys. Give me some BIF shots that I could not make with my trusty 20D.

LOL....funny how everyone's a BIF shooter now. Not my cup of tea. I hope to get you some good Ultimate Frisbee shots in a couple of weeks, though. Until then.....flowers.

EDIT: Shoot, I should probably pick up a 400/5.6 and shoot me some birds too.....when in Rome.....

Actually, they are not.. which is why I daily consider deleting about 50% of the posts in this thread..

At any rate, the 1Ds stuff on the last two pages won't be here for long. :)

Still waiting for the hardcore motorsports shots. No one is sharing motosports settings? A sportbike or a touring car is certainly larger than a BIF.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

settings updates: I tried the last settings I listed with hummingbirds.....busy background and my first ever hummingbird shoot...thus far I'm really liking the CF 3:5 on fast. I don't think I could have captured this without it. I had the focus search to off with this as well. The new thing is that I've been switching back and forth btw. center AF point and the ring of fire...both of them work really well in different settings...but the ring of fire tracks really well (on not a busy background) in aiservo. Oh, and the ring of fire worked great with fireworks too :)

Very cool Lisa!

So I have yet to try any extensive tests with the AI servo set above the default "medium" .. but my worst problems were when it was set to "slow" .. I think I see a pattern!

I gave the MKIII a good test at a Motorcycle Race meeting last weekend, the AF performed brilliantly, I took a few images of the bikes coming head on towards me at speed + 100mph, I shot single point AF, only Custom AF setting CFn III 8-2. As long as I kept the point on the bike no problems at all, if I wondered of the af tried to refocus on the BG which I would expect. I did try a fellow photogs MKII and had similar results although the MKII was a little slower acquiring focus. When I get a chance I will upload a series of shot taken at 10FPS. I have posted a few of my nephew :-

This image is one of a series.

I was seeing a pattern with that in my shooting too Jake. Art Morris is amazing but I've discovered that I can't use all his settings (especially the CF3 ones) for my style of shooting. Hope it works for you.

I don't eat at McDonald's 'cause the supersize is too expensive.

I'll have you know that the Segals I shot were at the Coney Island Aquarium, right off the famous beach/boardwalk of Coney Island, Brooklyn, N.Y.:p

NickR, great motorcycle shot. But 100 mph, big deal. Try it at 101mph, the AIServo will fail fer sure, fella. ;)
