Hi all,

I just want to drop a note here to let you know that the hotmirror problem many users are having with a G2 and an infrared filter may stem from the filter, not the camera. by taping a very opaque ir filter from my Rolleiflex to the front of my G2, I was able to take a number of ir photos sans that annoying center-glare reported by so many users. Previously, I'd tried a Hoya 87 with no joy.

Here's a pic with the rollei filter:

Now, I haven't been able to find any specs on this filter (which I found in a used camera store), but I imagine that it blocks all light below 800 or so.

Has anyone else tried anything like this?

Cheers,
-- b

Whoa cool. Does that mean that there is probably a 49mm infrared filter out there somewhere that would fit the lensmate? That would be really fun to try.

Tiffen makes a R87 49mm IR filter, if that is what you mean.

Have you tried this or any other IR filter on the G2?

My understanding is that there are several IR filters available, but that G2 have some problems with IR photo in general.

I've shot a few with a B+W IR filter Black 093 (87C). You can check them out at:

It has four shots in progression: no filter, filter, processed to B&W, and then levels enhanced.
