I am going on a vacation for 3 weeks and was thinking I would like to have a second body for the trip. I thought that a 5D would fit the bill, small, and good IQ. So I went to my local shop to look at and purchase a 5D.

I just could't do it. I am so used to a 1 series camera that the 5D didn't feel good at all.
I know a lot of people love this camera and I have seen many great photos from it. BUT IT AIN'T A 1 SERIES BODY! One body will have to suffice for the trip.

What's next? A 1D MKIII in a few months or a IDs MKII? I think in 6 months one may find either available for around $4k.

I am dissapointed though, I was looking forward to having a new toy.

I purchased my 5D about 18 months after getting my 1DMKIIN. I figured for the price of a 1DsMKII, I could the 5D and a couple of very, very nice lenses. So I did. The 5D is a very nice backup body for the 1DMKIIN. Does it have the same build and features? Certainly not, but I wouldn't use the 5D in situations where the 1D would be more appropriate. And there are situations where I don't use the 1D because the 5D is more appropriate. I have no problems switching between the two bodies.

My 20D doesn't get a whole lot of use simply because it doesn't feel right after using the 1s. I do use it for macro work...but that is about the extent of things.

I half expected a reply from you Mark, from your posts and sig I know you use and like your 5D. I have the 24-105 which pairs up well with the 5D, but I will have to wait for the price to fall to $2k or less to reconsider.
