Nope, a 10mm FL is still a 10mm FL regardless of which camera it is on. Same with the 12mm FL.
Actually, 12mm FL on a 1D is 12mm.
woohoo, it's begun.

He has almost a thousand posts. Sorry, Ed, but confusion thrives where the info is inconsistent and misleading. If you are comfortable with wishy-washy facts, fine, but I think it would be an injustice to new comers not to set the facts right.

airfrogusmc I'm a chimper. There I said it... More info | The best advice I can give you is find stuff that works for you. That means if you need to thin the herd do so. If its a lens that is so called "not as good" if you like it and get the results you want and need thats all that metters. Knowing your equipment and using things that you are comfortable with and you are getting the results that you like and your clients like, well, thats it bro...

The camera and/or it's format has nothing to do with the focal length of a lens. A 28mm lens will be a 28mm lens regardless of where it is mounted or not mounted. The crop factor was to help those that were used to 35mm film cameras to figure out an equivalent focal length for their smaller format DSLRs. Now, a 10mm lens on a 1.6 crop factor lens has about the same angle of view as a 16mm lens would on a 35mm film (or full frame) camera. I have owned and used formats from Minox and 110, to 126 and 35mm, to 645 and 6cm x 7cm (god, I love that format), to 4" x 5" view camera and many others in between. I never said the 110 format was a 2.0 crop factor, I delt with the format I was using. Being fond of the short tele focal lengths, I understand that on a 110 format this would be a 50mm lens, that on 35mm film format this would be 85-105mm lens and that on my beloved Mamiya RB37 (6cm x 7cm format) it would be 180-210mm. I think it would had been a service to us shutterbugs if the comparisons were made based on AOF instead of FL. If you find this info usefull please send $1 to jr_senator % your local postmaster.

Agreed. Unfortunately, the different frame aspect ratios make that somewhat problematic. Instead, one approach is merely to compare the vertical AOV, and ignore the diagonal or horizontal AOV. If you think of every lens in proportion to its vertical frame size, it becomes easy to relate rather than trying to memorize degrees of coverage!
