DNG converter issue - going mad

Hi guys,

I have been using Adobe DNG converter 3.1 to convert my RAW pics from my 350D into working with CS2. It has been working well until today. Now when I open the program, only half of the window comes up making it impossible to convert the files. I tried to download it again, but had the same results.

Has anyone come across this problem?? Is there something obvious I am missing? Of course I can't post a screenshot here to show you what I mean because that does not work either...... AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHH

Please help me out before I go mad!

Download the newest DNG convertor and try it rather than 3.1:

PS are you converting to DNG because CS2 won't open your RAW CR2 files? Or because you like DNG?

Hmmmm, that's a good question. When I started playinga round with RAW, I read lots of stuff and it seemed to make sense to convert the CR2 pics into DNG and then touch up the photos in CS2. It has been working well and I figured why fix what is not broken....

No that is fine. I convert to DNG for LR. I was just curious as your first post almost made it seem as if CS2 wouldn't open your 350D RAW files. Try the latest DNG convertor.

Mike, do you convert to DNG when importing to LR? I just got LR, was wondering if I should do that. Thanks.

Yes I do. One of the reasons I convert to DNG is so that I do not have to keep up with XMP sidecar files. I had th emisfortune one time of moving some CR2 files outside of Bridge (back when I used CS2 and Bridge) but didn't move the XMP files. I then used Bridge to rename the files using a sequence number and all my edits were now basically lost. Since then I have used DNG only except for backups of the original CR2 file to DVD. Lightroom doesn't write to XMP files unless you tell it to but I still use DNG just in case I need to write the edits to the files themselves.

do you still get the same control over a DNG file as you would if it was CR2?

As far as I can tell, yes. I've been converting CR2's to DNG for a while now, usually after copying the CR2's to DVD. They tend to be slightly smaller than the CR2, even with an embedded preview, and this tends to help out with my over-crowded external drives :-)

Yes and no. You can do all the same edits with DNG as you could with CR2s. But you can not use Canon's software to do it. ;)

I never really used it either. But I know if I said yes to your question and didn't fully respond there would be some on here to quickly point out that I was wrong. :D

Ok thanks, that was my main reason for thinking I should do it as well.
