Okay. Here it is....

I'm often **** about Adobe Raw converters, and the way they (mis)treat some colors.
Also, I'm quite curious to different interpretations in post processing one file.

I've found one image to visualise what I mean.
I think it would be nice to see some different conversions of the file.

Raw can be downloaded here: Click (external link) [obviously a large file]

This is the 'as shot' rendering by DPP:

IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/POTN/raw/rhd_20070524_CrLx_0326DPP.jpg

This is 'as shot' by ACR. I think LR will be similair.
IMAGE: http://www.moonglade.net/rene/POTN/raw/rhd_20070524_CrLx_0326ACR.jpg

Some obvious problems will be to remove some of the haze, and the blue cast, but still retain the 'feel' of the image.
Getting pleasing skin tones might also be challenging. Then there is the pretty high contrast to be dealt with.

Off course, you wouldn't want to spend more then 5 to 10 minutes on an image, because otherwise the 'pipeline' gets rather stuffed (as mine is ;))

Curious to different peoples interpretations.
Mine won't be due for a week or two I think: Rather busy time coming up, and some other shoots that need to be dealt with first...

Have fun!

Great composition... It will be very interesting to see what the RAW conversion results produce... I'll try it, but need some extra time.

wow, i can't believe how saturated the blues are in the ACR photo. no wonder i have issues w/ some of these drenched blue images in ACR.

i've got a few more sets of photos to finish (knocked off another two last night; i think i am down to 5 or 6 band sets to do now), but will take a crack at this one.

I had a few minutes and decided to see what I could do. I did the conversion in LR (yes, the conversion looks to be identical) and set my timer at 10 mins. Since I was not at the show and did not see the actual colors with my own eyes, I focused on getting the color of guitar body as close as I could to what I know the color to be. Everything else was tweaking. Settings details are below the picture.

In RAW -"Calibrate," I reduced the Shadow Tint...

Also reduced the "Color Balance" of the Blue: shadows, midtones, and highlights...

I'll have to get back to this. I diddled the jpeg for two minutes from the first image above with PhotoImpact and couldn't do a thing with it. It would be nice to see some conversions between LR and DPP of 'difficult' colors ... I'm just not sure that switching between two converters and their differences in how they remember their treatments is worth the effort and overhead, but I guess so long as they are non-destructive or you save a RAW file somewhere it is always possible to go back with a different converter.

Not bad.
Both have some tipical 'Adobe' issues, both have some things better then the other.
(better skin tones in the first, less of the blue 'ringaround' on the lights in #2)

As a reminder: A short description of workflow and software used would be nice:
What Raw converter and settings, what (local) adjustments etc.

As for 'difficult' colors: This was the first image I came across that will wreck havoc if converted thru ACR or LR without corrections....
I don't think this one's very difficult (since there's only one color giving problems), but it definately will need some work in conversion. Even when using DPP.
(That's why I supplied a Raw file. IMO working on the jpg is a pointless excercise)

Right well i dont have any adove raw converters unless phootoshop does it and i havnt figured that, but i use capture one pro by phase one for my workflow. So i gave it a bash in that.

Obviously cropped, to remove the blown light on the left as this detracted from the performer too much for me (personal opinion) then up the contrast, lower the saturation, change the white balance with the eye dropper tool, some basic noise supression, and finally a bit of sharpening before jpeg processing.

Not bad for 5 mins work at nearly 1 in the morning- i think to think anyway.

Here's another workup - I kinda liked the blue stage lighting - anyway my workup included trying to bring out the performer while enhacing the blue stage lighting.

- a couple of layers with a couple of masks

I may go back and try to touch up the blown background light

This is the most time I've ever spent on a concert photo. I usually just load 'em, convert them from raw to jpeg and resize.

I tried the RAW file with LightRoom and didn't get anywhere ... very tricky image ... makes me appreciate getting a good image to start with.

Say Rene'... How does one copy the history of actions taken in Photoshop?

I could only provide you with the most important steps, as I remember doing them...

This was my first time using Lightroom. I've been looking for a while, but I can't find anything on how to convert a single raw file to jpeg in Lightroom. Can someone let me know on this? I used print screen to save this shot as jpeg.

You can drag the image onto LR, select, goto Develop Module, edit, go to Library module, make sure it is still selected, in lower left is Export button, click and answer questions.

Maybe a more artsy version.
