In RAW -"Calibrate," I reduced the Shadow Tint...

John,

Which converter are you using? Is there such a thing as "RAW" Raw Converter?

Usually I use Photoshop, rarely I do use Canon's Digital Photo Professional, it came bundled with the 30D Camera.

The image in this Thread was converted in Photoshop... "Calibrate" is in the upper right hand corner of the RAW conversion window. Hope this helps...otherwise ask away... I'll try to give you more info...:D

EDIT: There very well might be a "RAW" RAW Converter... I'd Google it or try freeware downloads...
Maybe someone else knows of it specificaly...

Ah... so you meant "RAW" as in short for ACR ;)

I did Google and didn't find anything, that's why I asked.

I've had PSCS3 do the blue nasty to a number of recent images similar to the one Rene posted. I love a lot of the new features but may go back to C1 for doing many conversions.

I'm actually experimenting with RAW, while processing in Adobe Photoshop... Since I shoot only in RAW now... I only sort out the best images, for final processing... and individually work on every image... Sometimes, one original gets a few treatments till it looks "good".

Someday, I might go back to old images and rework them again from the original RAW capture...

Last night, at a local venue...their photographer tried to match my results of the 70-200mm f2.8 IS... by using his tripod and a non IS lens... Apparently we will be able to compare results...

We struck up a conversation about post processing and he will share all of his captures from last night's show with me and I offered to do the same...

He owns a Studio/Gallery across the street from the venue, and who knows what that will lead to...

Here's what I came up with:

It has some really nice features,. I use it almost exclusively for my other photography and have used it on the last couple of gigs that I've shot instead of C1. I like being able to do so much in ACR before it's converted and opened in PS.

What shutter speed was he going for? What do you think of using IS for gig work? I hardly get to use my 70-200/2.8 IS unless it's an outdoor day gig and sports shooters seem to prefer it off, I guess since they use higher shutter speeds. Some of the day time shots (the blues and soul guys) in my portfolio were done with that lens, but I can't remember if I had it on or off... blonde moments.

Nice to see so many different conversions...
Also fun to see that some go the direction I have in mind.
Keep the versions coming!

I'm quite buisy, and probabely won't be on POTN for a week or so, since I'll be in hotels the next few days. However, I hope to be able to work on the image next week or so...

This took a little over a minute in UFRAW. Please excuse the poor JPEG compression, I didn't realize the slider was down so low.

Anyways, the big problem with it was that the blues had totally over-whelmed the scene. That's probably what it looked like in real-life, but I decided to go for a more normal looking performer (this is all a matter of taste, of course), so starting from the camera white balance I both raised the color temperature and boosted the green level, so the Red and Green channels got a little more attention, and the performer didn't look really blue. Then I just boosted the mid-tones a tiny bit with the base curve, and exported.

Edit-Looking back on it, I should have upped exposure a little bit. But those blown-out lights just made me crinnngggeeee when the slider went up...

I am using DXO Optics Pro and it works on the actual lens and camera combo for certain things.

In my opinion this thread does only make sense when one gives the full conversion info. So here I go:

Using ACR (version 2.4 I think, where can I check that?):
Color Temp: 48000
Tint : 0
Exp: 0,45
Shadows: 15
Brightness: 15
Contrast 24
Saturation: 0

Sharpness: 30
Lum. smoothing 0
NR: 25

Custom curve (made contrast stronger, bit deeper in the shadows)

Calibrate tab, those that were adjusted:
Shadow tint: 4
Red hue: 21
Red saturation: -51
Blue Sat -24

Resized in CS2 using the Bicubic algorithm, then a USM with 357%, Radius 0,2 and a Treshold of 0

Then time ran out ;)

Still wonder how some of you got that silky smooth images. Yes, I did use a USM amount of 357%, but it didn't really add that much noise. Basically most of it was already there coming from ACR.

David
