...I'm not as impressed with it anymore.

I'm finding I'm going back to PS more and more to 'finish off' my pictures.

Anyone else hoping v1.1 will eradicate this?

I just spent 3 hours yesterday totally organizing my pictures, adding metadata and keywords, and its now a great archival system. I think that if you are going to PS more and more, then maybe you arnt fully utilizing the capabilities of LR or are taking worser pictures....lol. It is a relatively new app and there are alot of things that can be done with it that people just dont know about yet, like modifying the name plate to actually apply borders, or removing dust from a batch of photos, cross processing, just to name a few. Im very happy with LR, and i only drop pictures into PS if i want to get creative. You can even do HDR in LR. Learn to use its power, and i gurantee youll change your mind.

oh, and for the v1.1, the only main thing i hope they add is multiple monitor support like aperture has. I was using aperture with my 15" macbook pro and my Apple cinema display, but Lightroom dosnt have that feature....yet

OK, I read the whole post, but the part that caught my attention is ". . . even do HDR in LR".

Please explain - I'm dying to hear how.

I do find that I'm using PS to "finish things off"...but I'm only using PS to sharpen and to frame. I would assume (and have heard) that v1.1 will have a better sharpening tool. If that is the case, then I'll just be using PS for the framing actions, and more complex situations.

All in all, I think LR is a wonderful piece of software. Great for organizing, and is usually great for most of the tweaks I'd normally do.

I will never be able to completely stop using PS. I do far too much creative work using layers and effects that simply aren't available in LR.

IMO, Lightroom is a great addition to a photographers workflow. It has all appearances of being a good DAM package. It will allow us to proof us our images quickly which in some cases is a bonus. If you are doing all of your adjustments on the one layer then this will function fine.

However, I tend to do my image adjustments in adjustment layers to fully control the image. I could never say that I won't use photoshop for the greater percentage of my shots (and no they aren't worser:rolleyes:). You have to find the right balance between lightroom and photoshop. I like working with selections along with many other things that are not available in photoshop.

Even as a DAM package, it still is not as good as iView Media Pro which I currently use. It is a personal choice as to what will work for you. Find that workflow that will allow you to turn out the best images in the most productive time frame. There is no crime in not subscribing to Lightroom as the best possible solution for you. Like the OP, I am not nearly as big on LR as I was when it first came out. I still like the RAW conversions the Capture One Pro gives me.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

I do like it, I just find the image processing to be a quick fix, rather than the be-all-and-end-all. I love evrything else though.

Remember, it isn't made to REPLACE Photoshop, but it's an additional tool. Some images will benefit more from the extensive tools in Photoshop, and all pixel based editing still has to go to Photoshop - Lightroom has it's place is dealing with a higher volume of images.

There are a series of presets that you can apply to a group of pictures and then export to photoshop and layer them, then delete from each layer to get the desired effect. I didnt mean it as a one stop shop for HDR, but def makes it easier and you dont need photomatrix or w/e.

Im trying to get (properly) to grips with LR and have started by trying to organise ALL my photos using it

I have had to restructure ( all right - structure) my images into something more coherent than family and 'others' and in doing so am hitting the kind of walls you hit when you don't know a program that well

So what I have now is that clicking on the 'plus' sign in the folders gives me the create a new folder option not the browse to folder option that I had before - what's going on?
and >>
here's what IM trying to do:
on my HD is folder 'A' that cntains folders "b' 'c' 'd'
I have got folder 'a'a to import to LR in the 'folders' section and can see b c and d greyed out as children of it in LR and b,c and d have zero images in, but on the HD they do have images in. However when I try to import them LR warns me thatIM moving them on the HD:confused::confused::confused:

EDIT: so I tried using the 'import' button instead of the 'add' button:rolleyes: and it got the images from'b' on the HD into the 'b' folder in LR but it won't let me do it for 'c' - saying it alreay has them in the catalog, but there don't show in that folder in LR:confused: bzzzzt pfffft sszzzkk

EDIT2:tried importing again and unchecked the don't import suspecte duplicates, there weren't duplicates AFAICS infact only two images wee showing up - and it says 12/186 next to it

EDIT3: odd behaviour- first the photos didn't show at all like 12 out of a hundred or so the I clicked on one of them and suddently the rest appeared but at the same time it said "add to quick collection' and that stayed there like for 30 seconds and then faded VERY slowly , like in slow motion - odd - is it supposed to do that?

Make sure you've got the Import dialog set to 'Reference in Existing Location' to avoid the moving on the hard drive message. That way it won't move the images, just shows them in LR.

I am still seriously scratching my head trying to work out how to have the folders in LR and on my HD mirror each other, what with folders that LR hadsimported with 'imported on date' folders that oit has created itself but which contain no photos and at the same time trying to create a system that somehow allows me to enter files into .psd or tiff or jpg or Raw folders in a subject hierarchy and additioannlay allowing for a back up system without alienating those files from the subject hierarchy

No where near it yet, I don't find LR particularily easy to organise I have to say

e.g.the finder (Mac) or Bridge are 100% easier:(
