# of dpi' sent to printer

I am thinking about upgrading my canon printeran was wondering how many dpi's my 30D sends to my printer when I am shooting L . Thanks.wallen

Depends on how big your print is going to be. If you print a 4x6, it's sending almost 600 pixels per inch of print. Unless the printer driver is specifically designed to use the embedded "dpi" EXIF value the driver reads the file and essentially prints (total pixel width of image)/(# inches wide the print is) adjusted by whatever the printer's ink-spots per inch setting may be.

What I was trying to find out is my Canon 6210D that max out at 4800x1200 dpi's was giving me my best print.They look good now but you always wonder if they could be just a little better. Thank,wallen

Printer dpi isn't the same as print dpi. Printer dpi's a measure of how closely the ink dots are to each other, but more than one ink dot go into making up a single pixel. The rule of thumb for pixels/inch for good quality prints is about 250-300. So a 30D or 350D is good for an 8x12 (best) or 10x15 (good) without resizing the image to "up-res" it, increase the pixels in the image in post-processing.
