Man, I've always loved your work so much. It really makes NYC look so different than what it does in person, in a good way. :P I love your technique. I really wish that same day you could do a little guide on how to do this post processing, that is if you don't mind sharing the secrets. #1 photographer here :P

Hey Miyagi, Best, Ogrt, thanks for looking and for the kind comments! AJ, I know you're busy nowadays, and in a good way. Looking forward to hearing what's happening over there, with your newest member of the family. Ogrt, I will do a tutorial/guide as soon as I find the time to do so. I have discussed my PP in past threads, such as post #9 here. It is a very distilled version of what I do though. This summer I'll come upo with a step by step guide, hopefully.

Thanks again all :)

Hello!! *waves* I'm a newbie, haven't posted anything yet. I stumbled across some great shots you have taken and wanted to drop a line!

I recently bought a Canon Powershot SD1000, I've always been a fan of Canon (not sure why I wasted my money the last time on a Samsung!) Anyway, I'm still trying to look for a 'good moment' or shot to capture. As soon as I do, I will post. I hope I can produce images like those you took, they are pretty neat!

By the way, what camera/model did you use to take these photos?

Thanks in advance!

Wow Nadia, I am honored that you decided to write your very post here in this thread. Welcome to the forum! The camera I used here is a dSLR, a 20D with a 24-70 lens. That said, it is definitely possible to take great photos with a compact camera such as yours. I carry a compact camera myself all the time and I enjoy the photos that I have taken with it. As with almost anything, the key is to know its strengths and its weaknesses, so as to rely on the former and minimize the latter.

I find photography to be a constant learning process, no matter how experienced the photographer is. It is important to share your photos and keep an open mind as the comments roll in. And oin this site, you will surely get a lot of tips and help. Looking forward to your photos!

Pio, I have to jump in and say wow! I love your style, and I certainly love your subject matter as well. New York City provides endless opportunities. You have an amazing eye, and it blows me away when coupled with your technique. Your shots capture the mood so well, which is not easy to do. I visited your website, and I gotta say that I left inspired. Well done.

Cheers=>Samba

Been searching through your threads and just love your photographs. I went to NYC years ago and loved the place, unfortunately not managed to get out there again in my adult years so far. If you put them in a book, that would be one book I'd be willing to buy.

Samba, Stav, thanks for the really kind comments. I do have an unfair advantage by living in NYC - this city is just full of photographic possibilities everywhere you go. I am passionate about taking street photos and working on them. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and work on the photos for an hour or so, burning the midnight oil so to speak. Thanks again, much appreciated.

I'm another "Urban Life" lurker who's going to have to step out of the shadows and express my admiration for Pio's work. As many have said before me, inspirational stuff!

I too look forward to seeing an expanded write-up (as and when time permits) of your workflow process. Not that I wish to mimic you: I do feel though that it would be a valuable lesson in working with and understanding Photoshop.

Thank you for your posts.

Best,
Toby.

Toby.

Toby, thank you for that kind comment, I really appreciate it. I will certainly come up with that tutorial when I have time to do it :)

Andrew, I'm glad I'm not the only loony one awake at the wee hours working with photos!

Very nice work, Pio, here and in your gallery.

It's a pleasure to look at your stuff (though it is the polar opposite of what I do).

That's the sort of shot that becomes a classic. It's a slice of life full of meaning. Brilliant!

Julie, thanks! I looked at your gallery and I must say that the photos you take are quite unusual and creative. Great vision, I must say. Yes, I agree that we take quite different photos :)

John, Iain, thanks for looking and the kind comment!
