I don't know how likely Sony is to make a FF camera, but any competition is good for consumers, so I'm hoping they do come out with one soon.

Looks like Nikon is not planning a release any time soon.....

Maybe they want to get it right before they ship them, unlike some camera makers....

Or maybe they just dont have anything decent to ship out

I hope Nikon can hit one out of the park with the D3. I don't plan to get one since all of my (pre-ai) nikon glass works better on Canon cameras anyway. Just that it is nice to see great new cameras from any maker. I love cameras, old and new, and it has been a sad time lately with the recent losses of so many great camera companies.

The latest news on the D3 is a modular design harkening back to the days of the "Great System-Cameras" like the Nikon F2 or Canon F-1

Nikon D3 is expected to be of modular design (external link)

Latest concept...

I switched from Nikon to Canon for these exact reasons. From a business standpoint, Nikon is doing nothing for their pros. Canon keeps pushing the envelope and is developing for the pros and semi-pros, Nikon is making everything for the beginners lately.

For example, the better sensor( the CMOS sensor ) is featured on almost all if not all Canon DSLRs while Nikon has them on only the D2X bodies AND Canon has FF sensors if that is what you need. Nikon does not. Canon makes a body and maybe does one iteration / update of it down the road. Nikon makes something like the D40, then throws a D40x out the door RIGHT after! Then they have the D50, and D70.. Throw some "S" additions to their names... They really didn't push the envelope in my opinion between ALL those models. I mean the D40 has the same mpix count as my old D100 and the D50-70

On top of that, all Nikon stuff is discontinued so fast or on backorder... Remember trying to get those EN-EL3e Batteries when the D200 came out and they were backordered? Remember that cool external power pack for the speedlights? I wanted them but couldn't get them.

Even if Nikon makes "the boss" camera body, I am going to stick with Canon because if my company needs something, I want to make sure that it will be there.

I liked Nikon and would have kept all my Nikon stuff but I don't have the cash at this stage and couldn't justify keeping the Nikon AND getting Canon stuff.

how do u feel with a canon?
was a difficult, hard transition ?
which lacks did u find in the canon?

by the way it's the d3 endless history

Hey.
The switch went fine. I did have the whole issue with getting my Nikon stuff sold so I could replace it with similar Canon equipment so I could keep mty company going without having the necessary good. I had some money to front because one Nikon was old (D100) AND discontinued so I didn't get back what I put into it and had to front some money for better lenses which I didn't have with the Nikon. The pain for me was that the 580EX speedlight was being replaced by the 580EX II model so I needed flashes and had to try finding a store online who sold the original 580EX while I waited for the second revision to come out.

When I got the camera, I didn't like the LCD screen and not having the same joystick / AF point selector. I didn't mind the aperture to be selected on the big circular dial on the back but disliked the place where the shutter speed dial was since I was used to Nikon's style.

Other than those minor things, I was REALLY happy with Canon. I got more colors and less BS to edit in RAW and so forth. I loved the CMOS sensor but disliked the 1.6x crop factor and stuff.
