Every now and again, when i've just imported say 1,000 pics into LR, and been viewing them for awhile LR will slow right down and eventually stop. Task manager then shows that LR is creating manay many programs that are all called 'Bezel'

If I leave the PC for an age it will start again and 'Bezel's will dissapear, but usually i get too impatient and restart.

Are you asking LR to render full size previews during import? Are you applying a developing preset during the import?

When I first got LR I imported a big chunk of my library which was about 20,000 images. My computer slowed way down so I walked away from it and did not even touch it for about 12 hours. After that it has ran reasonably fast. But then again now I usually only import 50-200 images at a time. I can see how it would slow way down (and have many threaded processes running in the background) if you were to import 1000 images a whack.

No, I tend to just get LR to render them as I'm viewing. No presets applied.

I think it could be the rendering thats slowing it down. I might try rendering the previews at import next time, see how I get on with it.

Does 'render standard sized preview' make a 1:1 preview or a 'fit' sized preview, at import?

I think I read on the adobe forums this "bezel" is a problem with AMD processors (and maybe intel even) that don't have the SSE2 instruction set.

Hopefully it will be addressed in 1.1... but I'd still submit a bug report anyway:

I would seriously recommend you turn on Render Standard Previews in the import dialog box - it can be up to 5 times faster to render on import than to render on-the-fly or via the menu later.
