Hopefully someone will be able to answer this for me. I have just downloaded the trial of CS3 to check it out and my pallets are just floating on my desktop. When I open a picture I am not able to maximize the canvas. I press the little + but nothing happens :)

I can drag the widow out that the canvas is on, but I am needed to do with with every image. It's getting old.

Is there a setting somewhere that I can't find? Am I just lame?

The twist is that I am using a mac for the first time and I am wondering if it's something obvious that I am just not aware of. I have had the new computer since last night so I wouldn't be surprised if it's something that I have set up wrong.

I am setting up my second monitor tonight and I'd love to be able to get my workspace all put together.

Thank you very much in advance for any help!

Perhaps it's a Mac thing as you suggested. I have no such issue with a PC.

Thanks Stav, I thought your idea was it for sure. When I change the viewing options that way I have the option of everything on my desktop or full screen. Full screen does not allow me to have two images open and viewable in my work area. It's just one at a time.

Sounds like you need a little help from "SuperMac"...... Of course I in no way shape or form fit the description, so I'll just give it a bumpity bump for you and see if there are any Mac Pro's out there that can help you...

Sorry you are having problems, Sam... but it's nice to see you on the boards. :) And Congratultions on finally getting a Mac. Now all you need is a darn user's manual....

Not sure what it is you want to chieve, but it sounds like CS3 is acting as it should....
Press "Cmd +" to enlarge, "Cmd 0" to fit screen, and "Cmd Opt 0" to view at 100%.

This is what my desktop looks like with the full screen. I can only have one document at t time open.

This is not full screen. Why can I see my desktop?

Oh, I hope somebody has a work around for this issue because I feel your pain. I switched to a Mac a few weeks ago and have the same issue. I think that is just the way it works on the Mac but having to drag the photo window on every photo is annoying. Even worse I don't want to see my desktop when photoshop is open and worse yet is if I have lightroom and photoshop open. The screen quickly becomes cluttered and doing color work is a pain when there are all sorts of colors going on from the surrounding windows. I just want my neutral gray background back.

May be something here to help: http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=419 (external link)

If nothing else it's free...and that's a very good price.

It is a good reason to have a plain gray background ;)
If the screen is cluttered because of other apps in the BG, and you don't want to run full screen (for whatever reason), press Cmd-Opt-H (Hide others)

I run dual monitors, and usually edit in full screen mode (press f once).

Drawback in CS3 is you can't use that like in CS2: and have an image open in two windows ("window > arrange > New window for...") for example to work on a mask. (one window showing the image, the other the mask)
In CS2 the new window will open in a floating window on top of the original in full screen mode. In CS3 both will be in full screen mode, so only one is visible...

That answered it for me.

I don't think that is going to be easy to get used to. I like the program to hide my desktop, but I like to have the actual image with the ability to float around.

So maybe I don't want to consider getting CS3 after all? I was looking into it because I'm currently using PS7.... I really want to be able to process my RAW images in PS rather than an external program.. I'm still using an old version of Raw Shooter's Essentials...

Are you getting used to it yet Sam? or do you still hate it?

I got used to it in the time I used the beta CS3. I needed a bit of time to get used to PS2 afterwards ;)

By the way: The behaviour the OP is describing is the way PS on Mac has been working at least since PS6...
I presume it is different on PC.
