From time to time I see a picture with red arrows added to point out some point of interest in the picture. Is this done if photoshop? If so, can someone point me to the area of the program that does this. I've been given the task of creating a users guide for a telephone system and I have to put this in Microsoft Powerpoint. I need to show pictures of the telephone and the buttons that need to be pressed for certain features. I think it would be much clearer if I could point with an arrow on the picture.

There are no arrows. You can make one and set it as a brush or probably find a brush on google.

Go to GOOGLE and select images, type in ARROW, find one interesting to you and save it. Then open it in Photoshop, use the MAGIC WAND to elect the arrow and click EDIT>DEFINE BRUSH PRESET. Name it and you now have an arrow shaped brush.

I have PS7 and I don't have that star icon in the tools. Is there another place to find a shape?

ahh, well you could just put a photo of an arrow into photoshop then select it and then copy and paste the arrow into your image.

Powerpoint has that capability. If you're creating the presentation in powerpoint you might as well learn to use it.

It is there in PS6 and so PS7 should also have it -- just select the line tool. The options then will let youdesign your own pointer. I prefer the type without tailfeathers such the one that I used on this picture.

Since you beat me to it, let me just add to yours with a screen shot. :)

Adjust Weight (thickness of arrow - #2), Width and Length (arrow head width and length as % of arrow width - #5) for what you need.

Thank you Leo, a pictue is worth 1K words and I didn't have any spare words lying around (just got out of the hospital today and I am still tired ... of having been there).

BW, for my example, I used length = 1000%, width = 500%, concavity = 0%, and weight = 2 px.
