Your best bet would be to use external hard drives and not CDs/DVDs (which you shouldn't be using for long term archiving anyway). You could then setup all your keywords and metadata and Lightroom (LR) would know about those shots but they would appear in red in the folders section of LR until you plugged in that drive and told LR where the images reside. It creates a thumbnail for any photo you take offline so you can see them even if the DVD isn't in the drive. Canon 40D w/grip, 85mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.8, 20k lumen studio fluorescent DIY light kit, 2 strobe studio kit, 580exII, PW's.
