All the "close up" shots I tried today were quite tricky as the breeze kept moving things around. The bee also had his own ideas, which weren't quite aligned with my own. No sooner had he landed than he was off again so this was a real grab shot. Leaves were all over the place in the wind so again it was a case of pre-focusing and grabbing the shot when a moment's peace arrived. Any ideas gratefully received :)

Exif for the bee = 200mm + 68mm tubes, 1/500, f/8, 400 ISO, -1/3EV
Exif for the leaves = 200mm + 68mm tubes, 1/320, f/3.5, 400 ISO, 0EV

Both shots are uncropped.

Please stop posting these pictures. You are making me jealous. I think I might have to go shopping tomorrow. All that you have posted are great. Keep up the great shots and thanks for the inspiration.

Sorry :) I'm really just exploring what I can achieve with my new kit. The tubes open up a whole new world at far lower cost than a real macro lens and they offer so many more options. Here's an example of the kind of working distance and results you can get with tubes on a 100-400....

I won't post any more shots ;)

The leaf colours were really quite stunning in the sunshine. I think the image loses a lot when shrunk to these miniscule sizes. But yeah, not the most inspired shot. Maybe the shallow DOF doesn't work so well. I might try a shot with the whole plant. I need to find a test subject for my new 10-22 :)

I like them both, especially the first.

Are these the kenko tubes? What kind of working distance do you get?

They are Kenko tubes, bought from URGalaxy on eBay. I don't recall the working distance for the 70-200 but here is my setup with the tubes attached to a 100-400....

That gives a WD of 2-3 feet :)

I'll try to remember to set up a 70-200 with tubes and post back with WD figures soon.

I have the tubes, and was wondering how they would do with the 70-200 for macro, I might have to pick this up.

I've just set up my 70-200 f/2.8 IS with 68mm of tubes and with the focus set as close as possible I get....

16" WD @ 200mm
13" WD @ 165mm
12" WD @ 160mm
11" WD @ 153mm
10" WD @ 150mm
9" WD @ 145mm

If I set focus to "infinity" (that might be beyond infinity and thus OOF at all distances) I get a WD of....

24.5" @ 200mm

and a very bizarre colour aberration, perhaps due to focusing beyond infinty.

Here are examples of 16" WD @ 200mm and 9" WD @ 145mm.

The weird shot, at 200mm FL and focus at (or perhaps beyond) infinity. Strangely, I didn't notice this when looking through the viewfinder, only in the final captured image...
