Want to buy used D30

I`m really interested to buy used D30 in good condition.
I live in Europe.

You may want to check out Ebay. There are a lot of used d30's in the market now that the d60 is out. I have also seen some new d30 on ebay. And make sure you don't pay no more than 1300-1400 US dollars for a used one.

I heard a lot of bad things about eBay.
One of my close friend couple months ago (in March)tried to buy Sony videocamera.He won the auction,the seller asked to send him money via Western Union. But this guy disappeared, fictive person etc. So my friend gave report to police, eBay internet fraud service and etc.
So does anybody know the safest way to buy an item on eBay? Please send me some advices about shopping in internet.

Well, I guess I got lucky on Ebay. I bought a used d30 but I did a lot of research on the seller before I sent the money. You do have to be very careful on Ebay.

I have been on Ebay for over four years and had very little problem. I bought my D30 there from Cammetta Camera. The problem with your friends transaction was the Western Union payment. Anyone requesting a payment through them should be avoided. The problem is that even though they send you their name/address the address can be completely false. Western Union money can be picked up from any location. The seller indicates he lives in New York but picks the money up from Anywhere, USA and you have no recourse!
Check the persons' feedback ratings and look at the feedback comments.

I have been using ebay for a couple years now and have not had problems. I read seller's feedback carefully if I am committing significant money.

All ebay scams I have heard or read about, the seller has had a 0 or very close to 0 feedback rating.

It takes a lot of care to build good feedback. Few who have taken that care, are willing to throw it away on a scam.

Read the seller's feedback.

A seller selling something that expensive should have no problem with using an escrow service. I know that I offer that on all my eBay sales, with the buyer paying the escrow fees. I think it's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

It actually works two ways:

1) It gives the buyer peace of mind;

2) It makes the seller realise a better price for the item, as the bidders are not afraid to bid a little higher, knowing that they will receive the item before their money is released to the seller...

If you are interested in bidding on a D30, ask the seller if (s)he will accept escrow (ask BEFORE bidding!). If not, they probably have something to hide...

I have also purchased quite a bit of stuff using eBay with very good results.

I did get scammed once on a PC using Western Union to pay the seller, so I would echo the WU precautions voiced here.

One thing that has worked well for me when buying on eBay is to request the serial number of the unit (PC, camera, etc) from the seller. I would explain by saying I want to call the manufacturer to determine the exact remaining warranty. While this is a valid question and a useful piece of information, it would also flush out some scammers. They usually give you an excuse about how they can't get it for you, OR, you never hear from them again.
