quick ? people

Is noise ninja a lot better to remove noise from high ISO pictures than the inbuild PS filter,

and is it better to use the PS plug in noise ninja, or get the stand alone version to run on intel mac?

Thanks

I have noise ninja pro but I find customers never complain about noise, and it reduces detail, so I don't use it.

NN will give you better control over your noise reduction than PS will. If you use NN as a plug-in, you can also use masks so that you can apply noise reduction to only certain areas of your image.

The plug-in is convenient because you can use NN as a filter while you're editing your image without the need to exit PS to do noise reduction. You can also use masks as mentioned in the previous paragraph. Another advantage of using the plug-in is that you can batch process your images and still apply noise reduction with the plug-in.

We use the Neat Image Pro plugin. But, Noiseware has a completely free standalone version that also works incredibly well. You may want to take a look and give it a try. But, as Tim said, it's rarely worth the trouble of using...

So, try the Noiseware community edition. Decide for yourself if you like the way noise processing works, and then consider a plugin if you're going to use it much.

All of these were shot at 3200. I hope this helps. Oh and I use it as a plug in.

heh, Tim, I would guess you are not shooting with a 30D 1600iso 50-F1-4 in a marqee, pretty dark stage, with some dodgy all over place lighting, and still getting like 1/60th, (no Flash) at F1-4 but I learnt a lot last nite, that was for sure, and got a few ok pictures, well I think they ok for conditions, I am still very much a novice:(

Actually, The American members of this forum, probably will know the group more than in uk, though they originated from UK, was a Cutting Crew gig, pretty low key.

Here is one picture

It has been cropped, pp and damm nr everything I know to make it better :(

Please be nice to me, I know it is not good, but I have had 30D for a month, and never taken taking photos as this serious before, or spent so much time on with PS

This one was 1/250th. F1-4 1600 ISO

It is amazing how the colors change so much not using a flash, with so many different types of lighting

I made a mistake, I did not convert profile for web, hence that is why it looked a little cold

If you can you might want to warm it up just a little with a warming filter image/adjustments/ photo filter and try one of the warming filters. If you don't like it its still pretty good as is. If your going to be doing allot of stage stuff I would really get the ninja. It does cut down on some shrapness but the benefits I thank far out weigh the noise.

Ahh I just relised that photo I posted was saved as the wrong profile, hence why it looked a little cold and washed out.

I have added another, 1600 ISO on the 50mm f1-4
This has been Ninja-ed, and PP.

Again thanks for all your help.

i have NN as a plugin. i think it does a great job when i profile it to the image and it helps smoothes out the skin tone. women loves that.. cuz all their wrinkles disappears. granted, detail are lost.. so i'm still trying to figure out how to create an action to run NN that will be applicable to batch images without removing too much details while removing the noise.

any one know how i can do that with NN? much appreciated~

I use the (free) TLR Professional Mask Toolkit (external link) alongside Noise Ninja. I create a surface mask, duplicate the layer with the image, run Noise Ninja on that duplicate, then apply the mask. You can do all these steps in an action.
