Pictures sharper in PP than in PS or Windows PV

Hi everyone,

Being a newb in photography, especially first time dealing with RAW files, I tried using the Digital Photo Professional to handle them.

However, when I deal with the pictures in PP, they look crisp sharp. However once i open them in Windows PV or Photoshop, they lose the sharpness.

I understand I opened a RAW in PP instead, but if I did the JPEG, it would have gave the same result. I have a feeling it's something to do with color profiling and management?

Please share your professional advices!

Check the sharpening settings in each of the programs. I suspect DPP applies more sharpening by default, ACR/Photoshop only applies a little, and the fax viewer probably none.

When other people have complained about this very same thing, it turned out that they were comparing the images at smaller than 100% resolution. If you are going to compare sharpness, make sure they are all at 100%. If not, the different programs are going to use (or not use) different algorithms for reducing the size of the image so they're not all going to come out looking the same.

the PP and PS are at 100% for sure as I am aware of that factor. I tried to bring the Windows PV as close to 100% as possible since there's no measurements on it.

I am going to try exporting a RAW from PP into JPEG and see whether it makes a difference.

You have to convert your RAW's to jpeg's in DPP in order to view the end result in other programs.(comparing apples to apples) And yes, you need to sharpen them in DPP before converting.

Thanks all, done that. Also sharpened with PS's unsharp mask and I am starting to get a hang of it!
