I wanted to buy a 70-200 f2.8 IS so looked around for a good price, Warehouse Express seemed to be the best of the well known dealers at £1.249. Then whilst looking through this months (well next months actually as they always come out a month in advance) Digital Photo Magazine I saw a Jessops advert saying they would match any price in the magazine and as Warehouse Express advertise in the same magazine I gave them a ring, the guy said no problem; just bring in the coupon and check it's in date. In date I thought, it's this months magazine? When I looked I couldn't believe the end date on the offer was 20th June (this in a July magazine). Any way after further calls to Jessops it turns out that it's a printing error and the offer is open until 20-08-07 so if you were thinking of getting some thing price matched they will honour the coupon. They did with my lens and I got it for £84.00 less than their advertised price.

Did they try to include postage costs to the lens cost as well? they tried that with me till I told them to forget it then because the voucher said nothing about postage costs being included and started to leave the shop.

Ouch!!!! That's still a heck of a lot of money for that lens which can be bought new from Ian Kerso (Forum Member) for hundreds less. He's very reliable and a pleasure to deal with too.

No they didn't try to add any additional costs but I got the lens home and found it was a duff copy. Constantly getting error 1 messages and the IS was completely inop, luckily they had another one in stock so I took it straight back and swapped it. Not a very nice day to be riding around Leeds in but the swap only took about 3/4 hour, how long would it have took to swap it if I'd bought it from Kerso?

I heard yesterday that Jessops are closing a huge amount of stores to save money. I think they are looking to shut any store where they have more than one in a town.

You could always ask how much he has i nstock. Or you could ask him to test the lens before sending.

I recently bought a 70-200 2.8 IS. Very sharp and nothing wrong with it.

I would reckon 5-7 days allowing for return of the faulty product and assuming he had a replacement in stock.

You state "Luckily they had another in stock". How long would it have taken to obtain a replacement if they had not?

I am pleased you are happy with your purchase.

I seek only to remind other less well healed photographers, and those who wish to save truely significant sums of their hard earned cash, that there are other equally reliable retailers.

Ultimately we all make our own choices.

Yes they told me yesterday at the shop that soon 2 out of the 3 Jessops stores in Leeds would be closing, only the one that does the photo processing will be remaining.

Twin X. I'm sure Kerso would sort out any problems I would have had with a lens I bought with him but it's the time factor I wouldn't like.

EOSAddict Yep! couldn't believe it my self, not only 2 in the Leeds branch but 1 in York as well if I needed it. I was just about to order it from Warehouse Express when I thought I'd give Jessops a try (although thinking I would be wasting my time as Jessops don't seem to keep a real lot these days), I nearly fell off my chair when they said they had 2 in stock. If they hadn't have price matched I would still have ordered it from Warehouse Express though, to be honest I would have willingly paid an extra £20.00 for it from Jessops just so I knew I would have had back up just half an hour away but their prices are just way over the top.

I still prefer to buy from a real shop, especially when it's only half an hour away if things go wrong. That's a good price though!
