Had a chance to try this lens out in low light at the ball game this weekend. Shot 800 ISO for all of these shots. RAW -> JPEG with no noise removal in CS3. What do you think?

I'm really starting to like this lens

Not as good as my 100-400 but pretty close... :p

Just kidding, of course! Fantastic shots. Very clear and contrasty and no noise evident. I love mine for the same reasons. :D

It would have been better if it were the Yankees...;)
Great shots. I like the color/contrast on a lot of the shots.

That is a really excellent shot. The expression on Rodriguez's face is great. Clearly he's about to be out but 2 steps, but he still looks like he's running hard.

Very nice capture.

I'll be watching again tonight in about 40 minutes.

Are you positive? I've seen ISO800 5D shots before, and this looks like you went RAW -> JPEG with CS3's defaults (minor chromatic noise reduction, zero luminescent noise reduction). This is what my 30D shots look like under the same circumstances. Either that or it looks like you shot all of these with a Nikon, which is all lumi-noise and no chroma-noise, due to in-camera forced filtering. Seriously, there should be a very minor amount of chromatic noise on these shots, even on a low-noise 5D. Double-check your CS3's RAW import defaults.

At any rate, very nice shots. ;)

It is CS3 defaults .. Meant to say I applied no deliberate noise reduction.

2'nd row just to the right of first base so I'd say a few hundred feet for most shots.
