Hey everyone...

The family is heading out for a month long European vacation in July... Like I mentioned above, we'll be heading to London for a few days, then head to Paris for several more, then head to Rome for a few more days, and finally head to Greece for our 10-day cruise...

Having said our destinations, below is a list of lenses I have in my arsenal... I will be lugging them around on my Lowepro Mini Trekker 200 backpack... I will also be using a Bogen 680B monopod as a walking stick as well as mounting the camera on it when needed... The obvious one to bring will be my Tokie 12-24mm UWA... All the other pieces of glass are fair game...

Inside backpack already
- Canon XTi w/battery grip
- Tokina 12-24mm
- Tamron 28-75mm f2.8

Lens List
- Canon 70-200mm 2.8L IS USM
- Canon 28-135mm IS USM
- Canon 50mm 1.8 (nifty-fifty)
- Lens kit

Any suggestions, comments, and/or input in which other lens to bring would be appreciated... Thanks in advance!

- airbutchie :D

edit: added the Tammy to the backpack...

Well, all you have, of course :D

You'd really kick yourself if you find you forgot one... after all, going on a cruise is not exactly backpacking where every ounce would count...

Best regards,
Andy

i would say the ef 28-135 IS for range and versatility (though i'd much rather take the tamron for sharpness, but then again, it would mean extra weight for need/want to bring a telephoto), and the 50 f/1.8 for low light and portraits.

I would love to bring all of them, but the backpack won't fit all... Thanks for the suggestion, though...

I'd take everything but the 28-135. If it gets too tight, leave off the grip. I took 15-30, 24-70, 70-200 2.8 IS and 35 f/2 to Greece (5D and 20D bodies) and used every one of them a lot, all the way from shortest to longest (including slapping a 2x TC on the 70-200). It all fit into a Domke F-803 along with a 580EX, 30 GB of cards, polarizers and ND grads and my Libretto subnotebook.

To me the only question is will you have the room for, and want to haul around, the 70-200?

If so, leave out the 28-135 as the focal range is already covered by better glass, and take everything else.

If not, leave it out and take everything else. The 28-135 would then be your longest reach, so you could also leave the tammy behind, but I think that would be a mistake since it is faster and sharper.

Have fun, and don't leave anything behind that would possibly make you come back without ALL the shots.

it's easy , you will get your EF70-200 f2.8L IS with you , alo.ng with your Tamron.

leave your 28-135 at your home .

I think you wont need the f1.8 lens , since you have the 70-200f2.8 IS , with the powerful IS , it is like f1 .0L.

for static sbjects , the IS is more effective in low light than a bit faster f stops

Well, it sounds like the 28-135 might stay home... If I bring the 7-2 2.8L IS, should I bring the Kenko 1.4x T-Con? Or do you guys think it's an overkill?

I would say take the nifty fifty. I love fast primes and they come in useful taking night shots and if you want to be a bit more artistic with shallow dof.

You will kick urself on the cruise if you leave behind the 28-75 f/2.8 It's perfect for portrait shots inside the ship. Cruise ships have some wierd lighting so the f/2.8 would be perfect. my 50 stayed in my bag mostly the entire cruises I take (I go on 1 cruise a year ;) but since its so light....I usually bring it for the ONE TIME that i need it.

To be honest, I haven't hit that ONE TIME yet though....but..its so light?!?! ;)

Hmmm... Okay... Now I'll add the Tamron 28-27mm 2.8 to the backpack... I'm still wondering if I should bring the 7-2 2.8L IS... Pros/Cons for lugging this around during our excursions? Thanks a bunch!
