Question about the G7 and the zoom

Is it just me or does the digital zoom (after you have fully extended the lens) produce horrible pictures?

Am I doing something wrong or do all the pictures look horrible at full zoom?

No, you are not doing anything wrong (apart from using digital zoom).
Yes, it produces pretty horrible results.

Turn it off.

If you really need a bigger picture, you can do exactly the same as 'digital zoom' later in post-production ... just crop your image.

Digital zoom on ANY camera is terrible. You can only judge a P&S camera's zoom by its optical, not digital. All a digital zoom is doing is enlarging the pixles in the image, and like Andy said, you can do the same thing as a digital zoom in post.
