Ok I am running a IBM z60m Laptop with latest winXP.

ATI mobility radeon x600

I have sucessfully calibrated the monitor with EyeOne hardware/software

If I look in the: Display Propertys ---> Settings ---> Advanced

I find the profile I have created under the color management tab. And everything seems normal

Now..... If I so much as click on the color tab, my display takes on a blue cast!

What the heck just happened!

Nothing I do besides reboot the system will restore the colors back from the evil blue cast....

Help!

Just so we understand ... do you have both a "Color Management" tab and a "Color" tab?

I believe that standard WinXP just has a CM tab. The "Color" tab must be a third-party addition, perhaps installed with your graphics card?

I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd leave that Color tab alone. It sounds like some third-party software is trying to over-ride Windows' colour settings.

My laptop has an ati card also (igp 320m). I've come to the conclusion that I can't calibrate my monitor on it... (been trying to with spyder2express.)

They spyder2 website says that some ATI laptop cards drivers have a bug that don't allow settings to be written to the LUT (look up table).

Basically, I'll calibrate, and everything SAYS it goes fine, but I'll see NO CHANGE between calibrated and uncalibrated image (last step using spyder2 shows image you can flick back and forth between two states.) And when the loader starts at startup there is no change in display either.

ATI says its not their problem... that laptop driver updates are handled by computer manufacturer... but most manufacturers either don't, or very rarely, update their drivers. Compaq is of no help either (I don't think they have a clue.)

There are "unofficial" drivers and tools from driverheaven.net to let you use regular drivers... I tried those and they left a warm cast on my screen (grays appeared dark reddish brown) and also made dvd playback and video overlay not work.

Hopefully you're not having any of these problems, but just wanted to make you aware of the possibility. (I know I'm never buying a laptop with an ATI/AMD card again, maybe not even a compaq, after all this.)

Otherwise, as DAMO said, there's no reason to touch the color tab after you've calibrated, so just try not to. Color-management tab should be ok to touch.

Yep 2 tabs....

looks like the color tab is an ATI (my graphics card) tab.

Ill post some screen shots of the tabs...

Part of what the monitor calibration does is to load (on startup) a Lookup Table (LUT) to the graphics card, to get the monitor displaying the correct white point, gamma etc. The 'Color' tab as shown above also adjusts the LUT for the graphics card. What is happening is that, when you click on that tab, the driver clears the LUT - that's why the graph (white on black) shows a straight line. This, of course, removes the adjustments applied on startup, so you're no longer calibrated.

Theoretically, if you click 'Cancel' to exit the screen then the LUT should be restored. Given the 'eccentric' way that ATI write drivers, however, I wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't happen!
