As Lightroom matures it can and should replace Bridge for me. I'll read that article andsee if it's finally time to do that and get over my Lightroom hangups.

Sadly it can't add a lot of my files. Too large it says. Panos, 24x36 prints etc. They got large from being modded in CS3 so it's really a moot point to mod them in LR (or complain about it).

Thanks EOS.

Too large? I never realised it had a limitation... not likely to affect me... but sort of defeats the idea of the DAM aspect if it can't cope with all images.

Something else that is interesting. Has anybody else noticed that we have so eagerly been awaiting 1.1 that there has been no mention about the SDK release for third party vendors? I wonder how long before we start to see this become available.

I'm very anxious to hear about this - especially for people like Noise Ninja - I haven't installed LR 1.1 yet, so haven't checked out the new noise reduction, but that's one area where the plug-in makers are king.

LR has restrictions of 10,000 pixels per side. There was a very big debate in the User to User forums about this limit but I think Adobe will be standing firm on this one until digtal sensors reach these size limits. They believe the same as you that they were created in PS so that is where you will likely edit them as well.

If you would at least like to show them in your catalog create a smaller JPEG and import that. Then while in LR if you want to edit the "real" version right click on the image and click "Show in Explorer". This should open up the directory where both versions (the JPEG and original pano) are located and you can then just double click the original to open in PS.

There are slightly more technical reasons than that, so it's not just a case of 'they don't think they should have to', but hopefully that will change some time in the future. In the meantime, the workaround works fairly well.

Well yes. Sorry I didn't mean for it to sound like that.

i would love that lightroom makes 1:1 preview cache before open a image
because make 1:1 previews of the all databasa keeps a lot of time

In2Photos wrote in post #3453007 (external link)
Then set your standard previews as your cameras sensor size in the LR Preferences and upon Import check the box that says "Render Standard Previews".

Unless this processing has changed since 1.0, 1:1 previews are generated automatically on LR's 3rd pass through a folder checking the previews and there is no setting to control this behavior other than when to discard them. Standard previews are created on LR's 2nd pass and are controlled by the setting in preferences, which relates to your screen resolution.

What I think they should do is still import them and show a thumbnail, but just not let you adjust them, and tell you why.

As I've said before.... How good is a DAM the doesn't M your DA's? I understand no videos, or multimedia files, but this is awfully short sighted in the terms of panos.

Photoshop Elements Catalog at least puts the images in the catalog (sometimes without thumbnails I think.) But at least I know they still exist, and I don't forget about them.

I missed that part of your post the first time I read it.

I think LR should attempt to do that automatically when it comes across images too large, then do as I said in my post above... just not allow you to use LR's tools, but still let you open in in PS. Alot better than ignoring an image.

Or if it can't do the conversion to smaller jpg, have it crop the extra pixels off for its previews, and give a special flag to those types of images saying the actual image can only be edited in an external application.

That could be a very interesting idea David!
