I think LR should attempt to do that automatically when it comes across images too large, then do as I said in my post above... just not allow you to use LR's tools, but still let you open in in PS. Alot better than ignoring an image. Or if it can't do the conversion to smaller jpg, have it crop the extra pixels off for its previews, and give a special flag to those types of images saying the actual image can only be edited in an external application. Victoria Bampton wrote in post #3453359 That could be a very interesting idea David! cosworth wrote in post #3453418 *checkbox* - "generate JPG thumbnails for files too large for catalogue" How could it do all this if it can't work on files larger than 10,000 pixels? If it was able to auto generate the thumbs or crop off extra pixels wouldn't it just as well be able to edit the photos directly? Mike, The Keeper of the Archive

Correct. I wouldn't recommend setting your standard previews too big, because it's larger files to load into memory each time. We may one day see a 'render 1:1 previews' checkbox in the import dialog, but for now, render standard on import, then select all and use Library menu > Previews > Render 1:1 Previews and go make a drink while it works. That's one for the engineers to figure out, but I'd be inclined to say they may be able to use embedded previews/thumbnails. The 10,000 pixel limit is down to the ACR engine, which also only allows up to 10,000 pixels currently. Still, we will see! Victoria

If you bought Scott Kelbys LR book he is doing a free PDF that can be downloaded soon . ''just finished writing a special free Version 1.1 PDF update for people who’ve bought my book “The Lightroom Book for Digital Photographers” and we’re working on having it up live by tomorrow. I call this update “My Lightroom 1.1 Update Kit” and the kit is laid out in two page spreads; the left page shows how we used to do a particular task in the original Lightroom 1.0, and the right page shows the new and improved way to do it in version 1.1. It’s a really clean, quick, and efficient way to get up-to-speed fast, and the initial feedback on it has been really terrific. Also, I threw in lots of cool little tips because…well, I just love cool little tips. More on this when it goes live tomorrow. '' http://www.scottkelby.com/blog/ Regards Don An update to Kelby's book update: My editor’s are just finishing up proofing the last parts of my Lightroom 1.1 Update Kit and we plan to have posted later today, so please check back for a link on where to download it. I’ll do a separate post then it goes live. Mike, The Keeper of the Archive

Since loading 1.1 I have had great success - but mostly crashing...and I am not to the love hate part yet. To understand why the software stops responding, I have been searching the Adobe web site for help. Terrible. Buddy4344
