Well, yes - it allows you to change the size of the captured JPEG. So you can control how much space the RAW+JPEG will take up.

OK, I thought it took a RAW + Jpeg at the same time so you had the best of both worlds. I can do the same then in Photo shop by just saving it as a jpeg file to have booth. I was under the impression that it did that for you.

Later models put them into seperate files, but older models the jpeg was embedded.

If you need s small jpeg(approx 1MP-2.5MP depending on model) , then just shoot RAW only, and you can extract the 1MP jpeg with breeze browser from ANY Canon RAW file

Was wondering about the hack and compatibility with the 580 EX II? I read over on the Yahoo Canonhack group that some one had to reset of the custom functions added by the hack back to default in order to use their 580 EX II. Since that is the flash I use I am wondering if it is a good idea to even try the hack. Can any one tell me if it does or does not work with the 580?

My 580 EX II works fine with my hacked 300D. I've changed a few of the settings and some are still in default. I'd say give it a try and if it doesn't work you can always re-install the default firmware.
