Hi there,

I'm wondering how I can set my version of photoshop to show what my fonts look like when I open the text-type tool. All I can see is the name of the font, but I have so many fonts, I can't remember what is what..

So I end up opening MS Word to look at the fonts and click back to Photoshop.. seems like a waste of time and I'd love to be able to view them while working in Photoshop.

Anyone know if this can be done?

Thanks a bunch for any help. :)

This doesn't answer your question but might provide an alternative. You can print out your fonts for easy reference. Take a look at this thread:

Thanks Mike... I could do that, but I really want to see it on my screen... less junk on my desk... I guess I'll hold out to see if anyone knows... I'll keep that link in my back pocket just in case.. :)

Thanks again!

Hey Kristy! I read an article the other day that showed how to do this. I have PS CS and worked for me. I have to research a little though and will get back to you.

Ok, I figured it out. Now lets see if I can explain it. In Photoshop open a new document with white background.
Type something with the type tool. Then open the little character/paragraph tab on the top tool bar. Click only once on your type layer. Now if you scroll through the fonts you see listed under characters, you will see each font in what you just typed. Does this make sense? PM me if it doesn't and I will try to explain better.

Oh you really are the queen! :) ... I popped in for a quick second.. so I'll come back to this again this evening when life slows down a little bit...

Thank you so much! Can't wait to try it... I'll let you know how it goes tonight.

Did I say thank you yet??;)

Thanks Char.. that worked just fine... It's perfect for when I have type written and want to preview how it will look on my page. :)

What about if I just want to quickly scroll through my font listing and see what's available? Is there anything else I can do to my font listing to have them show? Not an option?

You would need a font viewer. Seperate from Photoshop. There are some free ones on the web and some you can buy. I can't recommend any particular one since I don't use one. Here is another tip for you. When you download fonts, don't put them in the windows folder. Only put them in the program files, adobe, common files, fonts. Too many fonts in your windows folder will cause your computer to be slow booting up. Also it is a good idea to limit your fonts in photoshop because it will take longer to load also. Also another thing I read the other day is not to ever delete fonts from the windows folder because it can cause problems with your operating system and programs that use them.
