I think it would really make the sign and the flag stand out more, IMHO Hermes

theague Mr. Monkey Pants! More info | Jun 27, 2007 14:40 | #5 Did you not get any photos of the main entrance sign? the one with the clock? Personally the shot does nothing for me. Could you have found an angle where all the container cranes were not in the shot? There are areas of the clouds that are blown out as well which is difficult with the darker structure and red sign with the bright daylight above. I think you did well considering the lighting conditions. - Kody

Jun 28, 2007 01:18 | #6 Thanks for comments hermes. As for not getting the cranes in the photo theague, I've seen half a dozen or more photos of this sign and never knew that it was in the middle of the industrial area of Seattle, we don't have shipyards and huge docks in DFW. The sun hadn't been out in 3 days and it decided to poke out the same time we happened to be at the market, not much I could do about it.

I would crop all the cranes etc off the bottom, BUT as you say that defeats the purpose a bit. Cropping them out would eliminate everything in the shot except for the sign and the flag. Part of the beauty of this shot are the cranes, being so big and with so many of them right there next to this public market. THe shot is perfectly balanced and the symbolism of the shot beautiful. My only changes that I would make would be the cropping that I suggested earlier. The sunlight is unfortunate, but the positive of that is that the contrast of the sign is even more pronounced. The flag seems to glow secondary to the sun, and I like that too. Hermes

Is the US a public market? I would crop the top of the photo though for a more pleasing 2:3 ratio, but that's just me. Thanks for sharing. Pio
