I had a problem with my 20D at a recent wedding. Fortunately I had a backup camera. The 20D just started shooting every second without stopping by itself. Even if I turned off removed the battery, as soon as I intslled the battery the camera started shooting again.
I sent it to Canon I received a first stimate for us 205 for the repair, then paid for it, but now I have received a second stimate for 619.71. They have already refund the first amout to my creditr card. Not sure why Canon does this kind of mistakes. But the question is, should I fix it?? I already got a new 30D and I was thinnking in using my 20D as a backup in replace for the rebeld.
Thanks for your thoughs.

No! You can get a new 20D for 889.00 here (external link). Or, get an xti, which actually gets good reviews as a wedding body.

No way.
Get a refurb. At this point, it's probably better than a repaired body.

repair vs. refurbished vs. XTi vs. 30D

Check the costs and decice which you would rather have.

Repaired you know what your camera will do and hopefully Canon will stand behind their work if it is not done right.

Refurbished you could be buying someone elses problems and may have to rely on the vendor or pay to send it to Canon if you have problems.

XTi gives you a new but more limited (in some ways) camera than the 20D, but may have more service life left in it than either a repaired or refurbished camera.

30D costs more money, but puts you back where you were when your 20D was brand new.

I didn't mention waiting for a new model that will replace the 30D because I assume you need a camera now and none of us knows (or can tell) when the new model will be available.

Why? Canon Factory Reburbs are pretty much as-new bodies.
So it doesn't make any sense to get the 20D repaired for $619, when you can get a refurb one for similar money.

Plus you get an extra battery, charger and all that stuff if you go refurb...

I wouldn't trust a repaired camera as my backup. All it's components are now old and electrical contacts dry out. It may work today, maybe tomorrow, but in a week it may play up again.

Yes, you may be able to send it back again, but if it didn't serve it's purpose of bailing you out in an emergency, you're sunk.

Maybe use this 'opportunity' to upgrade to a 5d :D They use the 30d as a backup/long lens camera.

That is a great idea, little expensive but may be in the near future.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
