Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS USM vs. Mamiya 645AFD

I purchased a new Mamiya 645AFD kit with the 80mm f/2.8 lens and 120/220 back about 3 years ago for a photography course I never finished. I barely used it then and never since.

Here's my dilemma. I'm considering selling it and purchasing the Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM. But every time I've sold equipment in the past I've regretted it. This includes a Nikon FTn, Olympus OM1, Canon A1 along with a variety of lenses and lastly, a Mamiya RB67 system. I'm probably too sentimental.

Anyway, help me out here. Should I keep the 645AFD and save up for the 70-200mm or sell? My current kit consists of a Canon 300D, kit lens, 10-22mm, 100mm f/2.8 macro and 400mm f/5.6 (all Canon). My interests are shooting animals, zoo photography, etc.

Your comments and experiences are appreciated.

I have same problem, except Pentax 645, backs and 75, 150 & 120 Macro, AF280 flash, and other stuff. It probably is losing value as I sit here, however, for as much as I can get for it now, I might as well keep it to play with. i can't decide.

I was in a similar situation when I had a Bronica ETRSi, couple of lenses, winder, prism finder, etc.

I didn't really want to let it go but the convenience and cleanliness (no darkroom) of digital photography convinced me that I was never going to use a darkroom again (the only way to properly experience Medium Format is to do your own D&P).

The sale of all my analogue photographic gear funded my wholesale move into the digital arena (from P&S to full SLR kit)

I have no regrets, especially now I am using the 5D with L lenses and looking at the current second hand price of Medium Format gear, I believe I made the right decision.

Look at the situation objectively - if you have all that equipment sitting there, unused and no intention of using it, why not relaease the equity tied up in it and treat yourself to something you WILL use today. After all, unless it's antique or collectable, the value will continiue to fall as it gets older.

Oh yeah, thanks, I forgot the dark room stuff I saved. I was thinking strictly B&W work.
