Quite possibly the bext signature I've ever seen, from Blonde:

Please critique any image that i post. If all you are going to say is "great shot", i appreciate it but there is no need to say it because it will not help me grow and get better. If you feel that you are not knowledgable enough to critique an image, critique it anyway. You don't need to be an expert to know what works for you or to know that the branch that is stuck right on the bird's face is annoying as hell. The only way we can grow as photographers is by understanding our weaknesses.

LOL! I love it!

I read that in a post of his a few minutes ago and thought the same thing. Heck, I'm not as hesitant to critique after reading that. Well put, Snir.

Well well what do we have here? A conversation between a wolf and a giraffe.

Blonde is smart. mm was that an oxymoron?

He's right, only way to learn something, you can just switch on the bs filter if someone has no idea, but then the trick is knowing who has no idea right?

I´ve been in a discussion in a threat recently where I labeled all these "good shot", "cute kid" and "what a nice animal" as SPAM. Gee did I have to put my flame suit on. I put it in other words than Snir:

"I cannot learn much from myself."

If only more people had that insight...

To put the flip side, I'm fine with receiving "Good Shot" comments. Sure you don't learn anything, but if someone wants to compliment my work it'd be rude to throw it back at them. I can appreciate something without it having to be a learning experience.

I dunno. I'm just here to have my ego stroked. And sell unused gear.

It's more appealing to hear "good shot" from people who think they have a clue (forum photogs) than "great shot" from people who admittedly have no clue (family).

/sarcasm (for those who read forums like manuscripts and need offscreen cues)

I don't learn much from others. People learn in different ways. I learn by experimentation and working things out and knowing when to ask others, or research on the web, whatever ... but even then I will always asimilate information based on my own reflection. I don't learn that well by someone just telling me stuff or expressing an opinion. So, horses for courses.

That Sig just makes me think 'yeah, who cares ...' but if it works for him learning like that then cool. But lets not pretend it's some universal law. I don't care what people say about my shots and I have learnt zero here when I have posted any. What makes a shot work for me in pretty intagiable. It is an emotional element or a vision and hard to 'learn' that off some ass who only shoots Ducks to lens test. I can see what others do and ask.

I like that certain people like my shots, but I'm more interested in pleasing myself and 'mistakes' is one of the great ways to learn. In fact, a better word for a mistake is a 'learn'. Just shoot, reflect and shoot again is my only advice to anyone ... and I either like your shot or I don't. What else is there to say?

Goes for me also. I shoot for money, so I have to anticipate what my customers are looking for. There are many technical aspects that are lost on the 'casual' viewer, so any posting of my shots would be pointless.

"Good" shots are those that are purchased.

I'm guessing you are talking about photography here because the way you phrased it...

I have learnt some photography stuff here but developing those skills is mostly fieldwork. What I've picked up a lot of tips on is photoshop. There are all kinds of tricks, settings, and workflow ideas that would have taken me a lot longer on my own.

It's too long.
