This is news to me. I currently use Capture One for my RAW processing and now I hear of Capture One 4. Is this an entirely different package or is it an upgrade version? I can't find it on the Phase one website.

I guess of all my uncles, I liked Uncle Cave Man the best. We called him Uncle Cave Man because he lived in a cave and because sometimes he'd eat one of us. Later on we found out he was a bear.

Gosh, where have you been. You should sign up for the C1 eletter. They mention it in there quite often. C1 Pro is also my preferred RAW converter. My patience is running thin with Phase One though. They have never been known for responding in a timely fashion to market forces.

They announced V4 a long time ago. They say it is going to be an almost total rewrite of the program. I have been playing with Lightroom in the meantime. It (LR) works fine on my powerful desktop but it slows to a snail pace on my laptop while C1 functions very well. It will be interesting to see what V4 brings to us. The original release said that this new version will function at least 300% faster. The problem is that I have very rarely seen C1 meet their own timelines.

V4 might be a free upgrade. You can check your user profile on their system and it will tell you if you have any upgrades left. I still have a couple so I will be having a hard look at the version when it comes out later this year.

There is also a user to user forum (external link) where you can find more information.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

They say it'll be "available in 2007" so they have a few months left :-) - I'm waiting myself, although I've started using Lightroom now...
