Is there any way to view lens metadata by keyword? Right now, the way I see it, if you click on the lens button you see the number of shots with each lens, but for ALL files in the Lightroom database.

I would like to see the number of shots I took with each lens last summer in Europe. Not exactly life or death, but I am curious.

Click on the keyword, and hold down Ctrl (Win) or Cmd (Mac) while you click on the lens.

When I follow your instructions, I get the thumbnails shot with whatever lens I've selected, but this is not what I'm looking for. I was hopeing to have the program count how many shots with each lens for a selected keyword. The numbers showing after the lenses still show me how many shots for each lens for the whole data base, not just the keyword I've clicked on.
Your directions are real simple, but at the end of the day I my brain may not be working correctly.

Ah, ok, I'm with you.

The Metadata Browser counts are unaffected by anything (selections, filters, folders etc). It won't count how many shots with a selected keyword used that particular lens, but you can get it to show you just that combination, using the instructions above. Holding down Ctrl/Cmd is the crucial bit. You make sure you've got the keyword selected, which shows you all the images with that keyword. Then holding down Ctrl/Cmd while you click on a lens narrows it down to just showing you that combination of keyword/lens, and the filmstrip at the bottom will tell you how many images are showing. Reasonable workaround for now?

Yes, that's what I found. Not practical for what I was trying to do, however. My goal, as mentioned above, was to find out how many shots with each lens during last summer's vacation in Europe. Just too many shots to count in the filmstrip area. Were talking about thousands of photos.

Not really that important. I was only curious because we often get the question: "What lenses to bring on vacation to ...". I might try counting the shots with my 70-200. The telephoto is usually the lens many people recommend leaving at home.

How many lenses? You don't need to count the pictures in the filmstrip - see the attached screenshot.

Also in the grid view there is a number in the top left hand corner of each photo. This is a numerical count for the images so look at the last image as well to get the total count.

Duh!
I need a vacation. Thanks guys.
Hey Victoria, how about using your apparent clout with the powers that be (I've come to this shakey conclusion after reading the other Lightroom 1.1 threads) to get the preset buttons to work as toggels.
I should probably look thru the documentation before asking another dumb question, but too late for that.

Yes, It's amazing that you can look at something but not see it.

You may need a vacation, but I am meant to be ON vacation, so this is only a real quick post! See, I just can't keep away!!!

Preset buttons to work as toggles? Can you explain what you mean? I'm interested!

Right, back to chilling out again now!

PS. I have no clout, I just get to communicate a little more directly

Click on the preset once and it turns the preset "on". Click it again and it turns it "off". Kind of like an undo - redo type thing.

Ah, ok, I'm with you.

Good theory, but how would you work it in this case....

You apply preset 1, which changes exposure, contrast, brightness and shadows. That then gets toggled on.

You then apply preset 2, which changes clarity, brightness, and sharpening. That then gets toggled on.

What would happen with the toggle on preset 1? It's no longer applying that preset, as preset 2 has changed preset 1's brightness setting. Thoughts?

And then what if you changes a sharpening setting manually? Do you untoggle preset 2, as those settings are no longer as per the preset. Thoughts?

They're not currently toggled as it's a one off application of the preset settings, but I'm willing to put forward your ideas.

I agree, that way would be hard.

To me the toggle function would only be of benefit if you chose one preset and then immediately decided to undo without having to go to edit > Undo or press CTRL + Z. Similar to how the on/off buttons work on the Right Panel of the Develop module for each section.
