forgot to add.. if you don't have the Canon CDs, you can download the drivers direct from the Canon website. Just make sure to get the CR2 driver for the camera you own.

Wow.. okay to answer what I can answer because I know how to:

Yes, I can still open the RAW images and edit them even though the internet cuts me off. Yes, I only get booted when I transfer from my memory card reader and when I open and use RAW in photoshop.

I am using Windows XP.

I don't know how long before I get booted off. I have a green wireless signal on my task bar on the bottom of the pc and it stays green even when I lose my connection, because it recognized a signal from the router. However, it's when I go back to use the net that I realize there is no net to use.

I am accessing them from the hard drive, not from the memory card reader.

And, I don't know the answers to the other questions. :-)

I'm not sure I understand exactly what the outcome of the situation is -

Are you able to open up RAW images and edit them (even though your getting booted off the internet)?

Are the only times you get booted off the internet is opening RAW and transfering images from the card reader to HD (is the card reader internal the the laptop)?

What Operating system are you using?

Do you know if you have your operating system set to allocate most of it's resources to running programs or processing background tasks?

When you have CS2 open & running how long until you try to open up a raw image and you get booted off the internet.

Do you know how much ram you have alocated in CS2 to run the program - you can adjust this setting in the preferences in CS2 - alot of people think the more ram they allocate to run PS the better it is - when IMPO I think the setting should be between 50 - 70% of your total RAM.

The RAW's that your opening are then on your HD or are you trying to access them from the card in the card reader.

There is a rather simple way to test this. Go to Microsoft's website and download the free RAW viewer here: http://www.microsoft.com …66FD4A3286&displaylang=en (external link)

If that viewer opens your RAW files with no problem, then it is definetly Adobe or Canon. .... Try the test with the MS viewer first.

This is not, IMHO, a good suggestion. First off, the MS RAW Viewer doesn't support her XTi so it's "no go from the git-go". But even if she had a different camera, the MSRV has caused a lot of people various problems so it really isn't suited to be used in a test. The suggestion to try opening a RAW with another application does have merit, however. DPP, ZB or any one of a half dozen dependable converters that have free trials would be good.

Test to see if your IP settings have been dropped. Go to start menu, click run, type 'cmd', hit enter. You will then be at a DOS prompt

type 'ipconfig /all' at the prompt before and after you lose connection. Is there a difference in the reported output?

What you are trying to determine here is if your connection is actually gone, or has just been rendered so slow (by auto download/update) as to seem dead. As long as you are at the command prompt try this when your connection is dead

type 'ping www.yahoo.com' if you get a response then your connection is super slow. If not type:

'ping 209.191.93.52' That is the IP address of yahoo. If that works then it is your DNS that is the problem. If not then your connection probably is dead.

Is the problem only with wireless? Any chance you can try a wired connection to yuor router and see if it happens?

You should also be able to restore your connection without rebooting until you get
this straightened out. Type the command 'ipconfig /release' hit enter and then type 'ipconfig /renew'. You may or may not need to release before you renew, depending.
