Just messing around in the backyard with my new 30D and 70-300 mm lens with IS. Shot it in Program mode (I believe) from about 60 feet away.

HAHA, hilarious! Is this a near-100% crop? Good shot, but it lacks sharpness.

Great capture! It doesn't look soft, but it likes like the focal point may be on the back? It's hard to tell. Looks a tad dark as well.

Tim
I cropped it down to about one half its original size.

Yes I know that it lacks sharpness but I have made progress this month learning how to use the 30D and the 70-300 mm zoom lens with IS. Hopefully I'll get matters sharper if I practice enough.

I like this shot. I agree with Mikel, I don't think it's so much soft as the focus point is in the wrong place. Compositionally, I'd like it cropped to the left with some nice open area on the right for Mr. Chippy to gaze into.

I think its a great shot and I find the focus to be acceptable. Nice capture.

...and how about how the frog's eye seems to be affected by the weight of the chipmonk? Wonderful capture, IrishKing. Welcome to the forum. Keep 'em comin'. Take Julie's composition advice about giving the chipmonk more room to run out of the frame; it makes us all feel safer.

Fun! Great shot! Is that the game called leap-frog?
