In 'My Pictures' I open a folder of say, today's captured images. Should I be able to view CR2 (400D RAW) files as thumbnails and not just as CR2 icons?

The only way I can view them is to return to ZoomBrowser; make a note of the file number and carry on from there.

It seems that Windows XP just doesn't want to show the icons as mini pics.

AFAIK Windows cannot display .CR2 files.

It can display CR2 files of older cameras if you use a PowerToy, but not newer versions of Canon's cameras like the 400D.

Try this powertoy from Microsoft.

Download the "RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer". I like some of the other downloads there too.
